Chapter 625
Ryan deliberately asked, “Marc, who are you waiting for?”
Marcus first glanced at Cornelia. He got a million things on the tip of his tongue, but Cornelia beat him to it, “President Hartley, thanks for getting me out of that jam!”
It was a subtle way of telling him not to spill the beans about their real relationship.
He let out a helpless chuckle, “Hop in. I’ll give you a ride”
After Marcus spilled the beans, Cornelia was unsure of how to be alone with him. She quickly sidestepped, “Mr. Ryan, did you really mean it when you said you’d treat us to
dinner?”
Ryan said, “Absolutely But it mostly depends on whether Marc agrees.”
Marcus said “Sure, let’s go eat first”
Ryan said, “You pick the place.”
Marcus said, “Flavor Fusion.”
Ryan got the hint. “Are you sure about Flavor Fusion?”
Marcus said, “Where it ended, there it starts”
Ryan got the drift, they had run into Cornelia at Flavor Fusion before, but he had let her slip away, “Alright, I’ll make a reservation. You guys go ahead, see you in a bit.”
Leonardo said, “What’s with all the secret talk? Did I miss something? Have I been asleep for years and lost my memory, or am I just out of the loop?”
Marcus ignored him and opened the car door for Cornelia.
Once in the car, she looked around, avoiding eye contact with Marcus.
Marcus spoke up. “Comelia”
Cornelia asked, “Hmm?”
Marcus said, “Turn around. Look at me.”
His voice was especially appealing today, as if it held some sort of enchantment.
Cornelia glanced at him, but quickly turned away, “Seen enough.”
Marcus was left exasperated, “Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Cornelia asked, “Are you talking about work or personal stuff?”
Marcus said, “Either, as long as you’re up for a chat.”
Cornelia said, “Tomorrow morning, you have a business meeting with someone from German. You’re having lunch with him and his wife. You promised them that when they’re in Riverton, you’d accompany them with your wife. They’re really looking forward to meeting your wife.”
Cornelia rattled off the schedule for the next day. After listening, Marcus asked, “So, would you like to join them for lunch as my wife?”
Cornelia hesitated, peering at him cautiously, “Can I say no?”
Marcus suddenly got serious, “Cornelia, you always have a choice. Just because you’re married to me, doesn’t mean you’re not free.”
