Flavian’s POV

We went to my parents‘ house, and when we arrived, they were genuinely surprised. My mother opened her arms and came to
greet me.
“Son, you’re finally back!” She hugged me..
“Don’t get your hopes up, Mom. I just came to talk with you all; I’m heading back to Paradise Port today,” I said promptly, and she placed her hand on my face.
“When will you understand that your place is here?” she asked.
“Not anymore, Mom,” I replied and greeted my father.
“Well, I think you’ll change your mind soon,” my father said with smile on his face.
“Are you saying that because of Sabrina, Dad?” I gave him a cynical smile. “I’m trying to understand how she managed to annul
the divorce decree.”
“From what I know, you withdrew the divorce because she was pregnant. And you signed all the documents for her. But that irresponsible woman traveled and lost my grandchild in a miscarriage.” The way my father spoke, it seemed he really believed in this supposed miscarriage.
“Is that what you know, Dad? Is that all you know?” I pressed, and he stared at me.
“That’s all I know,” he responded firmly. If I didn’t know him, I might have believed it. My father was a natural player, and bluffing was his greatest asset.
“Funny, Sabrina clearly told me that you were the one who did everything and got the annulment. Is she lying, Dad? Because I’m certain I never signed those documents.” I was just as firm as he was.
“What are you suggesting, Flavian?” my father asked, as if probing me.
“I’m saying, Dad, that I didn’t sign the papers and only now learned that Sabrina was pregnant. Therefore, the signatures are forged, and I’m going to prove it. As you know, document forgery is a crime. And as a detective, I can’t pretend it didn’t happen.” I spoke calmly, but my father didn’t flinch a muscle.
“If that’s the case, go ahead, Sabrina and whoever helped her should indeed answer for this crime.” He was calm and controlled. Whatever my father’s involvement in this was, he had certainly covered his tracks. “Now, let’s get to what really matters. The four of you walking together, is this a mutiny or are you realizing that we’re right?”
“Neither one nor the other,” Raul replied without humor, but in the conciliatory tone he used when he wanted to avoid an unpleasant topic. “We just came to have lunch with our parents and would like to have a peaceful and pleasant Sunday family
lunch.”
“So it shall be, my children. Come, let’s move to the dining table,” my mother turned toward the dining room, making us follow
her.
During the beginning of lunch, my father started talking business with Raul, and it really seemed like lunch would pass peacefully. But it didn’t take long for things to heat up, right after lunch, as soon as William arrived.
“Good afternoon, everyone.” The insufferable man arrived acting as if he were very close to the family. “Sorry for coming unannounced, but I really wanted to take my future fiancée out for a walk.”
He approached my sister and tried to kiss her, but she turned to me with a face that was begging for help.
“Oh, look who’s back. The irresponsible Flavian. Back to reality, future brother–in–law?” Who did that imbecile think he was to talk to me like that?
“Who do you think you are, you jerk? First of all, I am not and will never be your brother–in–law, thankfully! Because you can

bet I won’t allow my sister to be formed into a marriage she doesn’want, much less with an idiot like you,” I stood up bolling with anger and positioned myself in front of my sister.
“Watch your tone, Flavian. You don’t decide anything here. And I tell you, your sister will marry me whether she wants to or not. You know why? Because I want to marry her.” That idiot had the most cynical smile plastered on his face. “Oh, of course, and my father–in–law also wants this marriage.”
“Well, we’ll see about that. If you touch her or if my father insists this, you’ll regret it. Don’t underestimate me.” I growled at him. I was so irritated that I wanted to break lils face, but that wasn’t how I solved things, nor could I.
“Are you threatening me, detective? Watch out, or I’ll report you to Internal Affairs.” He mocked me, and my desire to break his face only grew stronger.
“Enough!” My father slammed his hand on the table and stood up Flavian, your mother and I will take care of your sister. As for you, William, these are not proper manners to present yourself in my house. We are having a family lunch.”
“But, father–in–law, I just want to take my future little bride for a walk. Besides, I want to set the engagement date.” The idiot was too interested in this marriage, and my curiosity was piqued.
“Such interest in marrying my sister.” I said, as I wasn’t buying it. Tell me, William, are you tired of your drinking nights, surrounded by women and gambling?”
“My life is none of your business, Flavian! Besides, I live however I want.” He responded, and I knew I had hit a weak spot.
Tell me, mother, I imagine you want a good husband for your daughter. What qualities should a good husband have?” I asked, making everyone uncomfortable.
“This is not relevant, Flavian!” My father tried to contain the discussion.
“Come on. You say you know what’s best for your children. Then explain why William would be the best husband for my sister? And don’t bother denying it, because everyone here knows about the wild and libertine lifestyle that the chosen fiancé flaunts. Or has that changed?” I insisted, as I needed to help my sister somehow.
“Nothing has changed. He’s still a show–off, always partying with friends, women, drinking, gambling, among other harmful habits, let’s say. Besides, he doesn’t work, and from what I know, his father is having serious problems trying to get him in line, “Raul said, looking at my father. “Oh, and I almost forgot, I heard that last week his father had to shell out good money to settle things with a woman he assaulted during a night of partying.”
