“Grace, Erhai is not your dreamland. You’re not seeking peace, but escaping.”
Gloria said solemnly.
She shouldn’t have said that, but as an outsider, she saw something that Grace didn’t.
Sometimes a spectator’s perspective was needed.
Perhaps this was not always true. But she saw Grace’s hesitation.
Three years ago, she helped Grace escape because she wanted her to live a peaceful life.
But she got more mature in the three years.
Her maturity kept her reflecting.
Was she right to help Grace escape three years ago?
She felt she was wrong.
This woman was too frightened to stop and take a look at the people and things around her.
In the past three years, she had seen Caden constantly searching. Everyone kept telling him to give up. They said Grace was probably dead.
If Grace wasn’t dead, why hadn’t he found her after three years’ search?
But that man didn’t believe it. He continued searching. Apart from searching for Grace, all he had in his life was work.
What Gloria saw was the once successful and arrogant man lowered his proud head and never game up for the sake of his heart’s concern.
She didn’t see Caden playing around. Instead, she saw his seriousness and persistence.
This was something she had longed for in another man, but she had never had it in her entire life.
But Grace was different.
The happiness that she couldn’t have might be obtained by Grace. She and Grace shared the same fate. Their terrible past might end in Grace’s hand.
She admitted that she had been selfish.
But more importantly, what she saw was not Grace’s heartless or her letting go, but her escape.
If this woman had truly let go at the bottom of her heart, then she would never say those words.
But apparently not.
“You’re always running away. Do you still care about anyone? Do you feel relieved?” Gloria’s questioning was like a thunderbolt that left Grace anxious and uneasy.
She covered her ears and said, “Don’t say anything. Don’t.”
Gloria pulled down Grace’s hands from her ears. “He’s sick. He’s dying.”
The world became silent in an instant.
Grace was stunned without Gloria pulling down her hand again.
“I … I’m going to the airport, or I’ll miss the flight.”
“Something has grown in his head. It’s been over a year. Now, it’s in late stage.” Gloria murmured.
“I, I really have to go to the airport.”
She was in a hurry to leave.
This time, Gloria didn’t stop her. She shouted at the figure who had hurriedly walked away.
“He chose to have surgery. The brain surgery was complicated. His condition was terrible. The success rate was less than 5%.”
“Enough!” Grace stopped and said, “Again? Did he ask you to come here?
“Back in Italy, he said there was blood congestion in his brain. How many times did he have to pretend mad?
“I’d be an idiot to fall for it again!”
Gloria sneered. “Alright, alright. You’re not an idiot, Grace! Just go!”
Gloria added, “No, you’re not going. You’re fleeing.”
“Grace, you’d better hurry up and escape, the further the better. Escape from what you don’t dare to face. But I have a question. Is it him or your own heart that you don’t dare to face?
“Don’t worry. This time, Caden will not disturb you, never.

The readers' comments on the novel: I've Been There Before (Grace and Caden)
How can a woman suffer so much? How can a man be too cruel initially robbing her of dignity and all, then deceiving her after he knows he loves her? How can they not remarry, making their offspring illegitimate? The line between love and hatred is truly fine indeed! Thank you for this story....
