Upon hearing this, Chloe fell silent for a moment. "I may not be able to handle Duskfall."
That organization was too dangerous, and even though she knew their objectives, she dared not to provoke them easily.
"I'll be by your side." Joseph paused, then added, "By the way, Vanya’s still alive."
The image of a sinister fox mask took shape in Chloe’s mind, sending shivers down her spine. Her nerves tightened as she asked, "What?"
Joseph briefly explained Vanya’s capture and the deal she made with Cyrus. Chloe was shocked to discover that Joseph had kept Vanya captive all these years, and even more shocked to learn that the Sinclairs had so heartlessly abandoned Vanya.
"I don't need you to do anything. I have my plans, and they’ll eventually pay for their transgressions," Joseph said calmly, but Chloe could sense the raging hatred beneath his surface composure.
She pursed her lips. "Is Vanya important to your plan?"
"Yes, she's well-informed of Duskfall's secrets."
"Then ask her about their secrets."
"Cyrus fed her with a slow-acting poison, so she’s now severely ill and often unconscious. To cure her, we need to get Dr. Z."
This doctor did not work for any specific country and was difficult to track down. Few knew her true identity, making it near impossible to seek help from her.
"Dr. Z?" Chloe's eyes lit up. "I can try to reach out."
She had always felt that her baby's death was suspicious. The baby had been born safely but perished in the fire? Though she had no clue why, she suspected that Duskfall was pulling some strings, and Vanya must know the details.
Joseph raised an eyebrow and a glimmer of surprise flashed through his eyes. "You know Dr. Z?"
"I do, but whether I can get Dr. Z to come here is uncertain. But before that, I want to meet with Vanya first," Chloe said. She did not agree immediately as she knew that this matter would be challenging. She would never give empty promises just to make herself look good.
A faint smile appeared on Joseph's face as he said gently, "Sure. I'll pick you up tomorrow afternoon at three."
Chloe nodded and waved, implying that he could leave now. She dared not let Joseph stay at the Sullivan estate for too long because of what happened that night. It made her feel like she was meeting a secret lover.
