Upon realizing what Joseph meant, Chloe blushed with embarrassment and glared at him irritably. "No thanks."
She did not realize that her anger appeared more like shyness. Joseph was only intending to tease her, but her reaction reminded him of the intensity of their encounter that night. He gulped, suppressing the urge to dominate her, and returned to the topic at hand. "I'm serious. This medication will speed up your recovery. The nether region is a delicate area, regardless of whether it's a man or woman."
It had been years since he had been with anyone, and combined with Chloe taking the initiative, he had not been able to control his strength properly. He wondered why Chloe did not ask the doctor for some medication.
Chloe took a deep breath and willed her embarrassment away. "Didn’t I pay you enough? Have you come to ask for more?"
Without giving him a chance to respond, she sized him up languidly and added, "You're right. With a body like yours, it must cost an arm a night, right? 30 dollars isn’t enough."
Joseph was not offended by Chloe's retort and calmly replied, "There are reasons for high prices. One must provide good after-sales service to secure returning customers."
"Once is enough for me. I'm already engaged, so be a gentleman and stop disturbing me."
It was clear that Chloe was hinting at something else. Joseph's face sank as he gazed at her. After a long pause, he said, "You’re abandoning your old lover not that you’ve found a new one?”
"Heh, old lover?" Chloe repeated his words with a strong tone of sarcasm.
"Does it not count? Shall we ask others about it?" Joseph replied matter-of-factly, "Whether it's one day or one year, it all counts, right? To be honest, I'm quite curious. If Noah knew we slept together just a few days ago, would he still want to be engaged to you? Should we test it out?"
Chloe’s eyes widened as she blushed again. "Are you threatening me?"
She stopped in her tracks and looked at him skeptically. "What are you talking about?"
"Xavia’s our target, not each other."
"No, my targets are Xavia and you, you blind fool."
Joseph frowned, and a hint of grievance crept into his cold voice. "No, our true target is the Duskfall. I'm also a victim."
With his wife leaving him, his grandfather getting injured, and his close relatives acting like buffoons, Joseph felt helpless and had no other choice but to fight back. At the same time, he admitted that he did not understand how to love someone.
