Chapter 12
Connor rushed back home, frantically flipping through my diary.
Keeping a diary had become a habit of mine since I was six. When I married him, I brought it from my family home.
With trembling hands, he found the entry from when I was 12.
December 17th
The moon was bright tonight. I heard Connor’s brothers bullied him and left him in the wilderness, so I knew I had to hurry and save him.
I couldn’t tell Dad. He would have stopped me from going to the southern part of the forest. So I went
alone.
December 18th
Was the forest always this terrifying at night? Luckily, I had finally found him.
When I discovered him in the trap, his silver–white fur was coated in poison vine sap, and his golden eyes were dull and
unfocused.
He couldn’t see.
