Drake said, "I'll go back to the villa now, sir. I know what I'll say when I see Miss Marshall."
He ran as fast as he could, afraid that he was ruining the moment for his boss and his boss's ex-wife.
Lenny kept squatting down, waiting for Scarlet to climb on his back. His clothes were already soaking wet from the rain.
Scarlet had no choice but to do as Lenny said. After she climbed on his back, he stood up and started walking.
She held the umbrella with both hands and sheltered them from the heavy rain.
His back was strong and warm, and it dispelled the cold she had been feeling.
The sound that the rain made against the umbrella was like a symphony.
Aside from that night when they slept together for the first time, this was the only intimate moment for them.
The two of them didn't say anything. Lenny walked for an hour while Scarlet worried the entire time about her weight on his back. He would get tired after carrying her for so long. She wanted to get down and walk herself several times, but he refused to let her.
Soon, they arrived at the house that Lenny gave her in the divorce. He finally set her down.
He was all drenched from the rain.
And the rain only got heavier and heavier.
"I need to go upstairs and change my clothes," he said.
"I... I don't have your clothes here."
"There's a shopping mall nearby, and it's not closed yet. I'll go buy new clothes."
"That's not the problem."
Scarlet was a little nervous. She had moved a long time ago.
Seeing the hesitation in her eyes, Lenny frowned. She was hiding something from him. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her upstairs by force.
The first floor was a commercial shop, and the second floor was a residential area. They were two properties in one, so it was convenient to rent out the shop and live in the upstairs apartment.
Standing at the front door, Lenny nodded at Scarlet to open it. But she didn't have the key and didn't know the password for the lock.
Before she could say anything, the door opened from the inside.
Colleen was talking and laughing with her boyfriend. She was on her way to take out the trash. Her heart leaped to her throat when she saw Lenny and Scarlet standing outside.
"What's going on?"
Lenny narrowed his eyes.
He gave Scarlet this property. What was Colleen doing here?
Was it because he didn't handle her and her mother well last time?
"Mr. Foster, just let it go, okay?" Scarlet pleaded.
"Tell me."
"I have nothing to say."
Scarlet let her stubbornness take the wheel.
Seeing that his ex-wife was unwilling to say anything, Lenny whipped his head at Colleen and hissed, "You tell me."
Colleen's scalp tingled when she met his eyes. He was not a friendly and easy-going man. He was cold, ruthless, and decisive, and he had a fearsome reputation in the business world.
"Scarlet gave me this property voluntarily. If you don't believe me, you can ask her. We didn't steal it from her. She gifted it to us."
"Voluntarily?" Lenny raised his eyebrows and looked at Scarlet. His voice was low, hoarse, and full of anger.
"Yes, I gave it to them voluntarily. We shouldn't be here, Mr. Foster. We're disturbing the residents. If you don't want to leave, then I'll go." Scarlet turned around and left in a hurry, but Lenny was able to catch up and stop her.
"If they forced you, you can tell me. You may not be my wife anymore, but I won't allow anyone to bully you like this. If you think it's inappropriate for me to deal with this matter, then I'll ask my mother or my grandmother to handle it."
"They're not bullying me. It's just that the Brown Group is facing a financial crisis right now. I had to give them something. The Brown Group is my grandfather's legacy. No matter how much I hate my father, my stepmother, and my stepsister, I can't let Grandpa's life's work just fall apart. Are you satisfied with that answer?"
Scarlet knew how hard her grandfather had to work to build the Brown Group from the ground up. But more than that, she didn't want Kyra to expose her pregnancy.
The last thing she wanted was for Lenny to find out that she was carrying his baby.
"I'll give you another house."
"No, thanks. I know a few houses are insignificant to you, but even if you give me another one, my family will only covet it. Although my father doesn't like me, I still have his blood in my veins. I can't keep any piece of property until I graduate and leave Wellholt. Thank you for your kindness, but I have a place to live now. You really don't need to worry about me."
"Where do you live now? I'll take you there."
"You don't have to. It's not that far. I can walk there myself."
"I don't like to repeat my words, Scarlet Brown."
When Lenny called her by her full name, Scarlet felt like her heart just jumped out of her ribcage. She instantly shut up.
