Chapter 323 Can You Stop Pissing Me Off?
Maggie’s heart skipped a heat. A sudden wave of tension washed over her as she glanced at the man standing in front of her.
Clearly, Nathael was testing her,
The flicker of panic in her eyes didn’t go unnoticed. His gaze deepened with probing intensity, and he examined her with suspicion.
Nathael’s hand gripped her chin, and she said in a low, serious voice, “You’re hiding something from me.” The intensity in his eyes was unsettling, making her heart clench.
Maggie couldn’t hold his gaze long for fear of revealing her repressed feelings and secrets.
She was also afraid that the rare moments of warmth and sweetness between them could end in a fight.
Maggie deliberately put on a cold expression and pushed him away. She jumped off the desk and asked coldly. “Are you testing me?”
Nathael’s brows furrowed, and his complexion darkened.
Without turning around, Maggie said with a hint of irritation, “If you don’t trust me, maybe we should just…
Before she could finish, a sharp pain shot through her wrist.
Nathael stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her back. He loomed above her, and his darked. eyes contained the rage he suppressed with great effort. Nathael confronted her, asking, “Maybe we should?
The words ‘break up‘ stuck in her throat, too painful to say out loud. Maggie met his now–cold gaze but couldn’t bring herself to utter those two words.,
She averted her eyes, not wanting to meet his stare, afraid she might break down and cry.
“I just don’t like you testing me,” she said softly.
Nathael’s lips pressed into a thin line, and he said nothing. Despite this, he knew what those unspoken
words were.
She wouldn’t feel tempted to say it aloud if she hadn’t had that thought.
Yet she almost did.
Nathael gripped her wrist tightly and lowered his gaze to hide the turbulent emotions within. He tried his best to suppress the growing sense of unease and anger.
He didn’t want to scare her.
Nathael reassured himself that she just didn’t love him that much yet.
At least, he had gained so much compared to before.
Nathael slowly released her wrist and said in a deep voice, “Let’s go.”
Maggie stood there, watching his back. Her eyes welled up with tears. His straight posture and somber silhouette made her heart ache, filling her with a sense of suffocation and despair.
She knew that he was happy when he came home, but he was probably heartbroken now.
Maybe this was for the best. At least he’d be mentally prepared. When the day arrived, it wouldn’t be as hard to accept.
The atmosphere was tense in the car, with neither of them speaking.
Half an hour later, Maggie and Nathael ate at a restaurant near the amusement park. Throughout the meal, they barely spoke.
Maggie had a little appetite. She took a few bites before putting down her spoon.
Nathael picked up some fish for her, carefully removing the bones and placing them on her plate. “Eat a bit more.” he said.
Maggie withdrew her gaze from the window to face him. She met his dark eyes.
