Chapter 393 Another Lie to Make Yourself Feel Better?
Maggie’s eyes welled up with tears. After her words, she didn’t even want to glance at Nathael’s face. She stood up, planning to leave the room.
However, Nathael grabbed her wrist firmly and yanked her back.
Before she could process what was happening, she found herself pinned beneath him. His gaze was as cold as ice as he spoke, “Take back what you just said, and I’ll pretend I didn’t hear it.”
Maggie’s throat felt tight, and she slowly shut her eyes, lips pressed tight, showing she wasn’t planning to talk anymore.
With a crimson tint in the corners of his eyes, Nathael looked almost like he’d put on some makeup, giving his usually stern face a bit of a wild and eerie vibe.
His big hand landed on her neck, and he said in a chilly tone, “Come on, say something!”
She always knew how to push his buttons.
His fingers were cold against her skin, not pressing hard, but Maggie could sense a slight tremble.
With tears welling up, she realised he was never one to keep his cool. Most times, it felt like distance just played tricks on her mind.
But even now, he still can’t seem to let her go.
What’s so special about me anyway?
Just because we had some connection back in the orphanage?
But even then, she was just looking out for his abilities and making smart choices.
Besides, he was good–looking and charming, which naturally made people want to be around him.
But does any of that compare to what he had given her?
The way he was acting just made Maggie feel worse. She’d prefer if he directed his anger at her or even felt disappointed, rather than bottling everything up and hurting himself.
Nathael stared at her, his breath shaky.
His trembling fingers rested on her delicate neck as if they could snap it with just a bit of pressure.
Maggie swallowed hard and slowly opened her eyes.
“What do you want to hear, Mr. Harris? Another lie to make yourself feel better?”
