This was a good thing, but Wendy could hear a hint of sadness in Jasper’s tone.
She asked, a little puzzled, “This should be a good thing, but why do you seem upset?”
Jasper smiled wryly and shook his head. “No, I’m not unhappy, I’m pleased to see this country that was riddled with holes a hundred years ago stand up again and rise to the top of the world. My heart is proud. I think the little prince and Lord Alvarado feel the same way, but have you thought about it? Now, we still have value, so Swallow Capital needs our help to do a lot of things. One day, the things we can provide will no longer be needed, or perhaps they’ll find a substitute. When that happens, we’ll be discarded.”
After listening to Jasper’s words, Wendy fell silent. Although Jasper did not say everything out loud, Wendy understood his meaning. She leaned her face against his firm chest, sighed softly, and said, “Did you get some information from the higher-ups saying that they will do something soon?”
After gaining experience in the business war, Wendy was no longer the ignorant girl she used to be. She also had her own keen sense of smell and opinions on many things. Although Jasper did not want her to worry, he did not want to hide this matter from Wendy.
Jasper did not like that kind of innocent and cute woman who did not know anything. So, he told Wendy about the conversation between him and the old man.
“The old man said that Somerland does not need so much capital and power in the future, but now is an extraordinary period, so we still need to rely on the power of the little prince and Lord Alvarado. But have you ever thought that once Swallow Capital no longer needs them, action will be taken against the little prince and Lord Alvarado’s family?”
