"Watch your tone!" Mikael said at once.
Wilbur had been brought here by Pembroke, and surely that had to mean that he was powerful to some extent.
Esha was out of her mind for speaking to him like this as a mere forensic technician.
Yet she refused to yield. "What? Was I wrong? Are we supposed to let just about anyone into a crime scene and make such deluded statements on the case? What would you even need forensics for, then?"
"How dare you!" Mikael was furious but could not say much else.
Wilbur nodded at Pembroke, who said at once, "Esha, Mister Penn's a member of the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense. He does have the right to be speaking on this."
"The Department of Paranormal Research and Defense? I've never even heard of them. Captain Wells, you're being scammed here. It's not a good look for you at all if this gets out," Esha said in disdain.
Pembroke finally lost it. "You might be a forensic specialist, Esha, but there's so much you don't understand because you just aren't skilled enough to. Got it?"
Wilbur took out his license then, handing it to Esha.
Esha glanced at the card. It said that Wilbur Penn was indeed Deacon of the fifth division of the Northeast Department of Paranormal Research and Defense, and also included a brief description of the power he held.
Esha read through everything, before handing the card back to Wilbur.
Pembroke sneered at her. "Do you understand now?"
"I do understand. I didn't know there was such a department, and that it was so powerful too," Esha replied. "But could anyone explain to me why there are so many divisions and what it means to be a deacon? Also, can you tell me if Hemount City is under the control of this fifth division?"
Despite the fact that the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense was a powerful department, there had to be limits to the power they held at least geographically.
Pembroke flushed once more. What was wrong with this lady?
