In front of the gate of a dilapidated old building on the outskirts of the Economic Development Zone, Wilbur raised his hand and knocked on the rusty gate. After waiting for a while, an elderly amputee with both legs missing struggled to come out and open the door.
"Who are you looking for, young man?" The elderly disabled man opened the door and saw Wilbur's unfamiliar face, so he asked with a puzzled expression.
Wilbur smiled after he heard that, asking, "Excuse me, sir. Is this Lindon Tomaz's family?"
Hearing Wilbur's question, the old man immediately had a vigilant look on his face. He carefully looked at Wilbur and asked, "What is your relationship with that person? Do you need something from them?"
Seeing the old man's wary look, Wilbur knew that it might not be as easy as he imagined to gather evidence.
After a moment of thought, Wilbur had a sudden moment of inspiration. Then, he took out Pendelton's business card and handed it to the old man, saying, "Sir, I'm the secretary of Pendleton Howard, the one in charge of the city. I'm here to make some inquiries. Are you free?"
"No, not at all… Just leave! I don't know any Lindon Tomaz either!"
The man immediately waved his hand to reject Wilbur when he heard Wilbur's purpose. Then, he slammed the door shut without giving Wilbur another chance to speak.
"This is weird! The address clearly says this is the place, but…"
Wilbur muttered to himself outside the door for a moment, then he quickly understood what was going on.
To confirm his speculation, Wilbur decided to go to the village store at the entrance to ask about the situation.
When he arrived, Wilbur saw several young men who were sitting shirtless at the entrance, drinking and playing some games. Wilbur just glanced at them casually before entering the store and grabbing a bottle of water. He planned to ask about the situation while he paid.
