The old man found an axe from the cabin, then he told Wilbur to chop some dry wood at the back of the cabin to be used for cooking later.
Wilbur picked up the axe and went to the back of the cabin, finding a pile of neatly placed wood.
Wilbur picked up a large piece of wood and placed it on the stump before starting to chop up the firewood. However, the axe was instantly knocked away the moment it hit the wood. Wilbur let go of the axe because he did not expect that outcome at all, causing the axe to fall to the snowy ground.
"Um…"
Wilbur glanced at the wood and picked up the axe. He took a closer look at the wood and discovered that he did not manage to chop the wood at all. The wood had no cracks from his chopping, with only a faint white mark on it.
Wilbur was flabbergasted by this turn of event. He used a lot of force when he tried to chop the wood, after all. The wood should have been chopped apart, but much to his surprise, it did not budge at all.
Wilbur picked up the wood and discovered that the wood was denser than ordinary wood, but not by a lot. The material should be easily chopped apart, yet his attempt to chop it earlier only left a faint mark on the wood.
Wilbur wondered what was going on.
He recalled the carp the old man caught at Lake Brant. It seemed like an ordinary carp too, but it had a terrifying strength. The fish and the wood made Wilbur wonder what was different about Gelsa compared to other places.
Could it be that some mysterious power was nurturing the environment here? Regardless, he main priority was to chop wood for now.
He took a deep breath and infused spiritual energy into the axe, then he viciously chopped down on the wood, splitting it in half.
Chopping wood became easier at that point. He was done within ten minutes and carried them into the cabin. Then, he followed the instructions of the old man and helped make a pot of delicious carp soup.
