It would not kill the creature, but the pain of having its appendage sliced would undoubtedly be unbearable for the huge creature lurking beneath the earth.

Wilbur believed he could force the huge creature out from beneath the ground through this with repeated attempts. He could imagine it as a bizarre plant creature covered in tendrils.
