Babbit told Felix on the shores of Planter Lake that he wanted him to be his eternal servant. Truthfully, Babbit was trying to reassure Felix because he knew that Felix was an expert thief. Babbit hoped that Felix could steal the Dark Mask from Edmund for him.
Moreover, when Felix mentioned that Wilbur was under the protection of an upper-dimension cultivator, it became a source of uneasiness for Babbit. The cultivation level of upper-dimension cultivators was incredibly powerful, and if they came looking for Felix, they might not only take him away but also pose a direct threat to Babbit.
Babbit did not want new troubles with the internal conflicts in Buck Town still unresolved. Therefore, Babbit needed Felix to act quickly. He felt that if Wilbur came looking for trouble while Felix was gone to Edmund's residence, he could blame it all on Edmund.
If Wilbur did not appear, and Felix stole the Dark Mask successfully, the heads of the Eight Great Families could work together and kill Edmund within ten days.
If Felix was discovered by Edmund and eventually died at his hands, then Wilbur and that upper-dimension cultivator would trouble Edmund as well.
In other words, Felix was like a hot potato that could not be held onto. Babbit felt like Felix had to be discarded, and letting Felix direct the trouble toward Edmund would get him the most gains.
However, Babbit did not know that the so-called upper dimension cultivator did not exist. Wilbur was the owner of the bronze mirror. Felix was great at observing people, so he knew what Babbit wanted.
Therefore, he came up with a realistic plan. He also knelt before Babbit in hopes of buying time for himself before having to depart to Edmund's residence to steal the Dark Mask.
Felix noticed that Babbit had a firm attitude, so he clenched his jaw and said, "In that case, I'm willing to serve you with all my might, sir. I’ll do all I can to retrieve Edmund’s Dark Mask. If I fail, I'll accept death at Edmund's hands without any complaints."
Babbit smirked in the dark as he heard that. He asked, "If Edmund interrogates you, how will you reply?"
