Love and Devotion No Longer His to Claim (Angela and Dexter) novel Chapter 290

In the next moment, Angela lost consciousness.

When Dexter arrived, the firefighters were already assembling their equipment, preparing to lift the car out of the water.

"Where is she? Where's Angela?" Dexter yelled anxiously, grabbing a firefighter.

"We haven't found her yet. We've already sent people…"

Before he could finish his sentence, Dexter had already thrown off his coat jacket and dived headfirst into the water.

It was mid-autumn, and the lake water was especially cold. Holding his breath, Dexter searched around in the water, but all he saw were a few other rescuers like himself.

There was no one in the car or around it.

Dexter's heart pounded in panic. Without hesitation, he swam toward the deeper waters.

Suddenly, a glimpse of olive green caught his eye. He quickly turned his head, looking toward an area of dense aquatic vegetation at the bottom of the lake.

Without hesitation, Dexter dove down, clinging to a shred of hope.

As he got closer, long strands of aquatic plants swayed chaotically, obstructing his vision. But to his astonishment, Angela really was there.

Her ankles were entangled by the waterweeds, and she had long since lost consciousness.

Overcome with anguish, Dexter swam to her feet and frantically began to pull the waterweeds away. A cloud of silt rose, causing him to choke violently on water, the discomfort nearly unbearable.

At that moment, two other rescuers arrived to help. Working together, they finally took Angela to shore.

Bystanders pointed and whispered, speculating that she wouldn't survive.

Angela was deathly pale at the moment.

"Angela!" Dexter performed chest compressions with precise rhythm on her, his voice filled with heartbreaking urgency.

He then pinched her nose and blew air into her mouth. Yet, despite his efforts, she showed no signs of improvement.

For over ten agonizing minutes, he persisted, oblivious to everyone around him, as if the entire world had been reduced to just the two of them.
