Zack sprang up instantly. "Heck yeah! I haven't had a proper meal in days. Tonight, I'm indulging! Let me go pick out a few outfits." With an exaggerated sway of his hips, he sashayed up the stairs.
Dexter had just returned home when he overheard their conversation.
"You're still recovering. You can't eat anything spicy," he reminded Angela absentmindedly as he set down his briefcase.
Angela had been through a rough couple of days. She had just escaped death's door, only to be caught up in Zack's mess right after. Things had been overwhelming.
"Fine, I'll just not order anything too heavy on the palate." Angela agreed without much thought.
Oddly enough, she initially didn't think much about her near-death experience. All she could think about for the past few days was Zack's situation.
Yet, the moment she finally had some time to breathe, the memory of being swept underwater and suffocating kept crossing her mind.
Unconsciously, she felt a tightness in her chest and her breathing growing labored.
"What's wrong?" Dexter quickly strode over, closing the distance between them in just a few steps. "Are you feeling unwell?"
"This is your fault. You reminded me of what happened." Angela shot him a glare.
Dexter's expression darkened.
"But I was already unconscious at the time… I shouldn't even remember what happened." Angela stared blankly into space, confused.
Dexter brought her a glass of warm water. "Well, even if your mind doesn't remember, your body remembers the fear. From now on, no matter what you do, be more careful. Always take… Joanne with you."
After Angela's brush with death, Fiona had reassigned Joanna to be Angela's personal bodyguard again, sticking to her like a shadow, solely focusing on her safety.
"I got it." Angela sighed helplessly.
She couldn't shake the feeling that her ties with Dexter were growing more entangled, but the thing was, she still owed him since he had saved her life twice now.
