Chapter 1291 Confronting the Past

“Haha, Mackenzie has already agreed to Gautier’s proposal. I’m here to formally propose on behalf of my son. Please accept our gifts.” William laughed triumphantly.

He didn’t care what was behind this matter. The point was that the Verkade family’s alliance with the Quillen family was advantageous for the Verkade family in every way and harmless.

The Quillen family members glanced at the wedding gifts; they were quite extravagant. It was roughly estimated at 20 million, not including the dowry.

It seemed the Verkade family had spared no expense, showing full sincerity.

“Mr. Verkade, my dad isn’t at home right now. Isn’t this a bit rushed?” Samantha couldn’t help but speak up.

“Aunt Samantha, why worry about it?” Lara immediately interjected. “Mackenzie has agreed to Gautier’s proposal, and the wedding gifts have been delivered. The whole city supports Mackenzie and Gautier’s relationship. Such a good thing should be done as quickly as possible.”

Beatrix wanted to argue with her, but Aunt Samantha and Aunt Sophie both supported it. Meanwhile, Aunt Stephanie and Aunt Sofia didn’t express any opinions. Even Felicity remained silent. Beatrix had no choice but to look at Emmanuel.

However, Emmanuel ignored this drama and went straight into Mackenzie’s room.

He knew his enemy wasn’t the Verkade family but Hattie. Killing was easy for him, but now he needed to save Mackenzie quickly.

Returning to the Quillen family, he intended to find Mackenzie’s own clothes, which were not in Yociam Residence.

Sage had trained an impressive tracking dog named Donnie, which had a keen sense of smell. Coincidentally, Mackenzie had a unique body scent. As long as Donnie smelled her scent, it was highly likely to track her whereabouts.

After a sleepless night of investigation and tracking, Emmanuel and Sage followed Donnie to the inland seaside on the second day.

“Emmanuel, the scent ends here.”

Sage was also quite impatient, but he had to restrain himself from showing it too obviously in front of Emmanuel. He feared that Emmanuel would notice his feelings for Mackenzie.

Emmanuel sighed and looked at the vast sea, recalling the nightmares Mackenzie had mentioned.

‘No! Don’t drown me! I’m afraid of water!’

‘Don’t hold me! Don’t touch me. Don’t-‘

It was the second night after they returned from Yeternia.

At first, Emmanuel thought Mackenzie was in danger. When he heard her voice, he immediately got up and ran to her room. However, he only found out that she was having a nightmare because of their experience in Yeternia.

It was also after that day that the strong-willed Mackenzie began to learn how to swim. On the night Magnus was killed, she even jumped into the river at all costs to find Emmanuel.

“Sage, I think Mackenzie has been taken to the sea.”

Emmanuel suddenly spoke up.

Sage was slightly stunned. He knew Emmanuel’s style; the man wouldn’t speak up unless he was sure. So, Sage asked directly, “What do you mean?”

“I’ve met Hattie twice. She’s very cunning and must have studied us. She knows that Mackenzie is smart but afraid of water. So, kidnapping her to the sea is the best choice. It’ll trap Mackenzie without worrying about her escaping cleverly.”

Sage agreed with Emmanuel’s analysis.

As Emmanuel finished speaking, Donnie suddenly started barking wildly.

The two hurried over and discovered that Donnie had dug up a piece of fabric from the sand.

Emmanuel quickly picked it up and clenched his fist. He said, “This is a fragment of Mackenzie’s clothing. It’s a clue she left for us. Mackenzie must be somewhere on this sea.”
