“Darling, please pardon them. They are my friends, and not everyone is as knowledgeable as a daughter of the famed Tanner family,” Chase said while projecting an air of chivalrous charm.

Roselynn’s stomach churned in disgust upon hearing that. No one knew him better than she did. In her mind, he was even more repulsive than Jaxton in certain respects.

For one, there was his hypocrisy.

During her time in university, she had agreed to date him because the pretentious and hypocritical act he put on had fooled.

her.

He had sworn not to initiate or push her into having sex before marriage. He even acted all self-righteous about that oath.

However, within two days of that promise, she would catch him red-handed cheating on her by walking into the room to find him naked in bed with another woman.

That was the start of her nightmares.

She only found the idea of marriage repulsive because of all the nightmares that spawned from that relationship. It was only through Emmanuel and Mackenzie’s encouragement as well as efforts at matchmaking that she allowed herself to respond to the emotions incited by Julian’s sincerity. While she did decide to befriend him, she was still very cautious and wary about the relationship.

“Roselynn, how nice to meet you again. How have you been?” Chase asked Roselynn with a smile on his lips.

The smile would have fooled Emmanuel into thinking Chase was actually an attractive and refined gentleman if Emmanuel had not seen through Chase’s act

early

“My life is good without youselynn sneered at him, unwilling to bother with fake pleasantries.

However, the awkward tension in the air did not affect Chase. Instead, he put on the look he usually like to put on, the kind that implicitly criticized the other person by showing that he was a mature man who would magnanimously tolerate and pardon their immature behavior.

“Darling, who is she?” the woman in pink asked in an agitated voice.

“My ex-girlfriend, Roselynn Lowe. We broke up many years ago,” Chase honestly replied.

“Oh, so she’s just a woman who helped you on your path to being an experienced man.”

The woman in the pink dress did not look jealous at all. With a forgiving expression on her face, she generously held a hand out for Roselynn to shake. “I am Hazel Tanner of Onza’s Tanner family and Chase’s wife. Thank you for letting him practice on you. You have turned him into a sweet and caring husband for me.”

Emmanuel immediately scowled when he heard that. That is incredibly insulting. In fact, it is even more insulting than if she had just cursed and shouted at Roselynn.

“Don’t thank me. I should be thanking you for taking in my unwanted trash. You have greatly contributed to keeping Yeringham’s environment clean.”

Roselyon did not even falter as she responded with a smile of her own.

You’re not the only one who knows how to use backhanded compliments. Fear is a word that does not exist in my dictionary anyway.

“You…”

Hazel’s face immediately turned bright red. Evidently, she had not expected a mere commoner to argue back. Does she have a death wish?

“Hazel, there’s no need for you to debase yourself by talking to Roselynn. Perhaps you two are not meant to be friends.”

Chase had spoken as if he was a wise and cultured scholar.

While Roselynn was used to his habit of doing so, she still could not resist the urge to gag. The revulsion she felt had never gone away ever since she found out that Chase was a hypocritical man who only pretended to be a gentleman.

No! The disgust is worse now!

In the past, Chase only used his looks and silver tongue for picking up girls instead of climbing the social ladder. However, he was now clearly using those tricks he learned become a freeloading husband. It felt like she was looking at a servant

man talking to his wife.
