Henry had called his parents and found out that Edgar and Jerry had visited his house. That was why he didn't go back home but rented a room not far away.
The first thing Jerry did was to investigate the phone records of Henry's parents, according to Edgar's hunch. Second, he sought for the information from real estate agents nearby. Until tonight, he managed to find the house Henry rented. However, Edgar wasn't answering his phone, so he decided to come over. Henry was his soldier, so Jerry didn't want him to bear the military liability.
When Jerry was at the bottom of the stair, he had heard a gunshot. An ordinary person would think that someone was just fooling around with firecrackers but as a professional, he knew that it was a gunshot.
Jerry turned his sight away from Edgar's pistol. He didn't believe that Edgar would kill Henry. But at this very moment, he had suspected Edgar was the one who shot Henry.
Meanwhile, Maggie was curled up on the sofa.
She held the TV remote and kept changing channels. She couldn't find the reason why she was feeling so jumpy.
"Maggie, dear, it's already late. Don't stay up." After doing the laundry, Hana had noticed that Maggie kept switching channels so she only shook her head helplessly. "There aren't much on the TV tonight. So why not sleep early? Then you can get up early. Tomorrow morning, you'll accompany me to the market to buy something and you'll have to bring it back. Perhaps, it won't be used here, but overseas..."
"Mom," Maggie interrupted her mother, putting down the TV remote. "They went abroad to get their diseases treated, not for pleasure. You don't need to buy those things." Maggie sighed and held Hana's arm. "I just couldn't fall asleep! I don't know why. Maybe I am so worried for my friend or Edgar. I feel anxious."
Upon hearing her words, Hana sat down on the sofa with Maggie. She said seriously, "To tell you the truth, I didn't agree when your dad wanted Edgar to be his son-in-law. But we have known Edgar so well since his childhood and you love him, so I didn't say anything about it." She saw Maggie touching her hand and continued, "However, he is in the special army. That's just how it is. No matter how dangerous and difficult the tasks are, they have to be the first ones to deal with them. I never doubted his ability, but I'm worried. You are too stubborn to listen to these words, but I am afraid that you will end up sad in the future."
Maggie understood her mother's words. Parents always wanted the best for their children and it had always been the parental instinct. She said, "Mom, life is as short as meteor showers. Since it's short, we have to make our lives worth living." Then she leaned on Hana's shoulder. "When a meteor flash in the night sky, it looks so small and weak but nobody can ignore its existence. That's why life is like meteor showers. It fades so fast but full of wonders." The corners of her mouth gradually curved into a smile. "One cannot decide someone else's destiny, but he can decide for his own. My life won't be as short as meteor showers, nor the relationship between Edgar and me will be. Others can't decide for us. Not even God. It's us who will get to decide."
Maggie stood up and looked at Hana with red eyes but with a smile nonetheless. "I can't make this meteor shower last forever, but I can choose to make my life shine brightly in the most splendid way. No one can predict the future. It's worthy being happy even if it turns sad later on. After all, it's my life and no one can take my place. And for me, it'll be the most beautiful story."
Hana was moved by Maggie's words and hugged her tightly. "My Maggie has indeed grown up. You're not that crazy little girl anymore. You chose to take a stand. I'm still not happy, but I believe you're right."
Maggie chuckled with her red eyes. "Mom, don't be too sentimental! I'm getting the shivers, you know!"
Hana laughed and hugged her daughter again tightly. This was the love given by mothers to their children. The kind of love was selfless, always giving and supportive. It was full of warmth that it could melt one's heart.
All of a sudden, Maggie's phone rang which broke the mode. Hana let Maggie go and Maggie went to pick up her phone. She could only roll her eyes when she saw the number. She muttered, "How annoying."
Maggie finally put her phone on her ear and asked in a bad tone, "What? What do you need from me?"
