Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1157

The chief of Police said, "The incident happened on Bayview Way, about twelve miles from the penitentiary. Honestly, we never expected anything like this—Bryce seemed totally crushed when he was arrested."

"We reached out to you right away because Mr. Lippert, you seem to know Bryce better than anyone. Do you have any idea who might want to help him break out?"

Ludwik listened intently, his brows knitting together, his voice icy cold. "I get your point, Chief. From what you’ve seen at the scene, do you have any idea who we’re dealing with?"

"One SWAT officer dead, three wounded. The attackers used a sniper rifle—military grade. My guess? Professional mercenaries."

An unknown force was at play.

Without a second thought, Ludwik halted the board meeting right then and there. He didn’t even get a chance to say a word to his father—just stormed out of the office. Felix hustled after him, barely making it into the elevator as the doors slid shut.

He caught Ludwik’s chilling tone: "I don’t care if Bryce sprouts wings—he’s not getting away from me this time. Whoever’s behind this, whether it’s some shadowy organization or just Bryce’s desperate last stand, I’ll take him down myself if I have to. Even if it’s the end for both of us, he’s not escaping. Chief, I want a full sweep of the entire coastline. Hunt them down in the direction they’re fleeing—leave no stone unturned!"

"We already have units on the move."

"I’ll be there in twenty minutes." Ludwik’s eyes were like shards of ice. He turned to Felix. "Get the Lippert family chopper on the roof. Now!"

Felix caught the bloodshot fury in Ludwik’s eyes and knew he meant business.

The feud between Mr. Lippert and Bryce was coming to an end—one way or another, Bryce wasn’t slipping away this time.

"But Mr. Lippert, this is dangerous—you don’t know what you’re walking into. Your safety—"

"That’s not my concern. Bryce is a dead man—letting him rot in jail would be too kind." Ludwik’s voice dripped with sarcasm.

Felix frowned, puzzled. "But who would help him? All Bryce had left was Ms. Tennyson, and you already exposed him to the President. There’s no way he’s got anyone else in his corner. Ronan Miller? Even less likely."

Ludwik was thinking the same thing—he knew that’s why the police had called him in the first place.
