But Whitney just spoke up, calm and unhurried as ever. “Grandma, you’re too late. The photos are already out there. I’m not pulling the story, either. In fact, I’m planning to make even more of a scene about Shane and his ‘fiancée’ Sandy’s wild night together.”
“Sandy? Shane and Sandy? You mean they— Wait, was this you? Whitney, did you do this?!”
Emma’s voice shot up an octave, practically gasping with rage.
Once she realized what had happened, her anger shifted to panic for her granddaughter. “What did you do to my Sienna? Whitney, I always knew you had a cruel streak, but Sienna is your cousin! How could you do something so heartless? You have no respect for me, your own grandmother! You already got Florence killed, and if anything happens to Sienna, the Sheldon family will never forgive you!”
Whitney had heard these kinds of nasty accusations too many times to let them bother her now.
She didn’t even wait for Emma to finish her tirade—she just gave a cold laugh and hung up.
The rest was child’s play.
She turned to Felix. “Keep a close eye on those paparazzi. Don’t let them tip off the papers. Since the scoop about Shane and Sandy is out, and with Mr. Lippert from your side promising to fan the flames, this scandal’s going to burn all weekend. I bet the Nelson family’s already heard by now.”
“Ms. Valentine, that was quick thinking. Brutal, sure, but it worked,” Felix said, nodding with understanding.
Whitney pivoted on her heel. “Now I need to find Sienna. Where is she? After a night locked up, I doubt she’s still feeling so cocky.”
“Last night, you said to leave her outside the bar for the drunks, but I figured you wouldn’t actually go that far. So, I had a few of the housekeepers lock her in the old warehouse instead.”
Whitney shot him a look. “She’s still a Sheldon girl, not even married yet—I’d never actually ruin her reputation for real. Good call on not using any male guards, either. Hopefully she’ll understand that I went easy on her, and won’t try anything stupid again.”
Felix just shook his head with a smirk. “Ms. Valentine, I gotta say, Sienna’s as bad as Florence ever was. She’s been rotten to the core since she was a kid. If you think she’s going to suddenly see the error of her ways, you’re dreaming. And your grandmother? She just eggs her on.”
“Whatever. If Sienna tries to mess with Shane and Sandy again, she won’t get off so easy next time.”
Whitney’s voice was cool and steely as she clenched her pale fingers.
