York's smile froze.
"What do you mean?"
Packing up and leaving quickly was one thing, but what was this about "don't ever come back"?
Leda shot back, "I mean exactly what I said. I recall mentioning I don't mix business with pleasure."
"After last night, things got complicated, so the only solution is—no more business between us."
York slowly straightened up, his gaze intense and dark, "I wasn't drunk last night, and from your reaction, neither were you, right?"
"Right."
So, there was no drunken mistake involved.
York chuckled, "So, we just slept together, and you're already kicking me to the curb before I've even got my clothes on?"
Leda's lips twitched, "That's on you for not wearing clothes. And if you like playing the fool, I don't mind."
"I damn well do mind!" York's voice suddenly rose, "Leda, do you know what you sound like?"
"What?"
"Like one of those jerks who seduces a girl and then refuses to take responsibility!"
Leda paused for a beat before asking, "Are you saying you're the innocent girl in this scenario?"
York was flabbergasted.
"Don’t act like you're the victim here. Last night was consensual, we're both adults. Stop playing the innocent youth."
"Over the years, Mr. Gibson, you've been with enough women. If not a hundred, then fifty at least. Did you shout about taking responsibility after each one? Likewise, after being with you, I don't owe you any responsibility. What gives you the right to expect that from others?"
York had never believed in karma, but at this moment, his past actions were coming back to haunt him.
"Ha—Who said anything about wanting you to take responsibility?! I’m not so desperate that I need you to take care of me."
Leda sighed in relief, "Good to know."
Seeing her relieved expression, York clenched his fists in silent frustration.
