Love Burned, She Rose Unscathed novel Chapter 625

"Sit down," Babur insisted, his tone brooking no argument.

"Director White, are you deaf or something? I'm swamped here, I don't have time for this—"

"I said sit down! Are you hard of hearing?! Do I need to glare at you to get some respect?! What do you think you are?! I give you a little bit of respect, and you think you can run the show?! Don't forget who pulled you up from nothing! Who's been fighting for your funding every single year?!"

"And you think, with your mediocre achievements, you could snatch funding from Madeleine?! Some dogs only bite when they're too well-fed!"

Edna was utterly dumbfounded.

"How could you..."

Babur had never lost his temper with her like this before.

"Sit. Down. Now," he repeated, each word dripping with authority.

With no trace of her former defiance, Edna quietly pulled out a chair and sat.

"What did you want?" she asked, her voice markedly softer.

Babur scoffed, grabbing an invitation from his desk and hurling it at her face.

"What do I want? You've got the nerve to ask?! Read this!"

Stunned into silence, Edna picked up the invitation, her confusion only growing. "Lab unveiling? How is that even possible?"

"How? The Dean threw it in my face just now, saying the school board received it too! You think this is a joke?!"

"Roseanne and her crew even got the Dean involved? She—she's out of line—"

Edna was at a loss for words, her anger and shock intermingling.

She realized, with the school involved, this wasn't going to be easy to smooth over.

"Anyway," she inhaled deeply, clenching her jaw, "I don't believe Roseanne's team could actually set up a lab. It's probably all smoke and mirrors, just to throw us off!"
