As her mind started to clear, Roseanne quickly began to replay the events in her head.
She remembered the headlights suddenly flashing on, shining directly at her and momentarily blinding her.
In a panic, she instinctively slammed on the brakes.
She heard a loud crash...
But she was certain she'd hit an object, not a person.
But why was there something there?
When the headlights came on, her view of the road had been clear, and she was sure there had been no obstacles.
Logically, she should have continued straight without hitting anything.
Unless...
Unless that thing had appeared out of nowhere!
Setting aside supernatural explanations, that left only one option: someone had put it there.
Roseanne sat in her car for a full three minutes, waiting for someone or something to appear.
Nothing.
She frowned. Had she been wrong?
After another two minutes passed with no sign of life, she made the decision to get out and take a look.
Before stepping out, she grabbed her phone. Then, hesitating for a moment, she also reached into the glove box and took out a small folding knife. It was tiny, just fitting in her palm.
Stepping out of the car, she first scanned her surroundings and noticed that two streetlights overhead were out, making this stretch of road much darker than the others.
Then she bent down to inspect the front of her car and saw a fist-sized scrape.
Looking over at what she'd hit: a square metal box.
The box was rusty, with welding marks visible, and had a few dents from the impact, though it looked like they'd been adjusted, making them less obvious.
Roseanne was baffled.
A metal box in the middle of the road at night?
