Chapter 109 She couldn’t Afford to Offend Him By the time the meeting was over, It was already three. Damien was starving, and he asked his assistant to get him something to cat.
After that, he called Clarissa. “Come to my office.”
Over the phone, she could tell that he was suppressing his anger. She knew exactly what had happened. Howard had told her about it the moment he came back to the office, Damien had been embarrassed in front of all the senior management stall.
Clarissa went to his office.
“What did you mean by that, playing me like a lool?” Seated in his chair, Damien questioned her like he would a subordinate. He lit a cigarette, then threw the lighter onto his desk. “I’ve been making shepherd’s pie for at least a decade. I could’ve made it perfectly with my eyes closed, and it definitely wouldn’t have been too salty. Why did you say it was too salty?!” Clarissa was defiant. She didn’t back down after tricking Damien. On the contrary, she felt she hadn’t done anything wrong.
“At least a decade? Do you like it that much?” Damien asked.
She fell silent for a short while. “No, I’m not the one who likes it. I don’t like the taste of onions.”
“Who is it, then?” Damien had the upper hand now. Clarissa had originally been mad about him allowing Madelynn to cat the food she’d cooked, but now, she had grown tired by simply trying to answer his questions.
“It’s… someone in my family.”
“Me?”
“No! Were you part of my family a decade ago?” Clarissa rolled her eyes, irritated by his stupidity. At the same time, his teasing angered her even more.
“Oh, right. I’ve only just become part of your family.”
His mention of being her family warmed her heart, and she softened her tone. “Madelynn told me the food was on the sally side. That’s just not possible!”
“Oh, she was the one who told you. So, you were jealous? That’s why you took it out on me?” Damien’s tone was still calm, as il everything that Clarissa was saying was within his expectations.
Clarissa was embarrassed that he’d seen through her so easily, and she flushed crimson.
“I… I wasn’ı! Anyway…” she stammered. Though she was in the right, Damien managed to get the upper hand every time they argued. “I brought Joseph’s book and notes back yesterday!”
“Did you bring them back to show me? To tell me that you were jealous, so you wanted to make me jealous as well?
He looked at her teasingly.
“You… I…” She couldn’t think of anything to say. Why was lie so hateful?
