Chapter 29 Did He Hit You? Clarissa made Damien’s grandfather happy every day that week. He would smile from ear to ear. Occasionally, Damien would transfer money to her. Since Clarissa already had enough money for the computers, she did not really care. On Sunday, Clarissa told Damien she was taking a day off because she had to go for the certified public accountant lessons.

She bumped into someone in the classroom corridor. It was none other than her ex-colleague, Nicole Brown. “Nicole? Are you taking the certified public accountant exam too? I didn’t see you last time.” Clarissa felt a bit guilty upon meeting Nicole. After all, it was because of her that Nicole could not remain in New East Corporation. “I started working in a new company and only just registered for this class four days ago,” said Nicole. Then, she took a sip of coffee. “You found a new job?”

Nicole replied nonchalantly, “President Lawrence introduced me to another accounting firm. The pay is double in comparison to New East Corporation. If I get the certificate, I’ll become an official accountant.”

Upon hearing Nicole’s words, Clarissa felt slightly more at ease.

At that moment, Joseph walked over from the opposite side. Nicole had a wide grin on her face. She took this class because of him.

Joseph was Nicole’s senior at Pioneer University. They were under the same supervisor and had met a few times during conferences. For a long time, she had a crush on Joseph. “Joseph, I bought you a cup of coffee.” Nicole handed another cup of coffee to Joseph politely.

“Thank you, but I won’t be able to sleep if I drink coffee. I’ll pass.”

Joseph asked worriedly, “Did Damien do anything to you?”

Clarissa shook her head.

“No. What’s wrong?” “He’s quite a violent man. I’m glad that you’re okay. I was afraid he would hit you!” Joseph recalled the scene where Damien threw his jacket out of the car. He stared at Clarissa’s face and asked, “What’s your relationship with Damien? Why did you get into his car?”

That question stunned her. ‘Their marriage had to be kept a secret, cyen though recently Damien did not seem to really care. Moreover, she could sense that Damien and Joseph did not get along. If she told Joseph about their private matters, Damien would definitely be unhappy. “He’s my supervisor and I’ın his employec. We’re also friends…” Clarissa gave it some thought and decided to avoid giving away crucial information. “Just friends?” After hearing that, Joseph breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason, he looked happy. “Yes.”

Clarissa nodded. In hier mind, she thought, ‘I’m sorry. I have to keep this a secret from you. Otherwise, President Lawrence will get angry…’

They spoke for a little more with lowered volces, Nicole watched them and clenched her fists tightly.
