Clarissa soon went back to Genovia, intending to stay at Lily’s place.
Lily didn’t look too pleased when she picked Clarissa up.
“I’m surprised you still remember this place. It’s hard to find someone as heartless and cruel as you in this world now, you know. Your education’s so much more important than everything else, after all,” she muttered.
Clarissa knew she was in the wrong, so she didn’t retort.
“Aren’t you going to treat me to a meal now that I’m back here?” They were old friends. There was no need to stand on ceremony.
“No. My housekeeper’s a great cook, so why should I waste money on you? Come on, let’s go.”
Clarissa followed Lily home. Landon was still at work.
Lily checked her watch. “He should be back soon.”
After getting married, Landon moved out of his parent's home. He made some money with his gaming company, and used it to buy a duplex apartment. Their little family of three was very happy here, and now, Lily was pregnant with another baby.
She told her son, Eric, to greet Clarissa.
“He’s so big already?” Clarissa exclaimed in delight. She couldn’t help feeling bitter as she was reminded of Neil. He didn’t know who she was at all.
“Yeah. I may not have been the best student or employee, but there’s no denying I’m the happiest person alive right now. Landon hands his salary to me every month, and I’m in charge of the family’s finances.” Lily looked pleased with herself.
“Alright, alright. No one’s happier than you are. Don’t forget that I have to be your kid’s godmother.” Clarissa had a cheeky look on her face.
Now that she was with Lily, she was back to her old self.
“Who is it that wants to be my son’s godmother?” A voice rang out from the entrance.
“Clarissa?” Landon’s eyes lit up when he saw her. “You want to be his godmother? Do you know who his godfather is?”
“Who is it?” Clarissa asked.
It couldn’t be who she thought it was, could it?
She had never expected him to be leisurely enough to be someone’s godfather!
Lily could see how awkward Clarissa felt, so she quickly changed the topic. “Clarissa, are you still in contact with Luke?”
“No. Since I’m back here, I’m going to visit my mother’s grave. I’ll probably have to see him as well. We can’t just become strangers, can we?” Clarissa didn’t know how Luke was currently doing.
“Speaking of your brother… No, forget it. Let’s not talk about him.” Lily felt like she had said too much and continued eating.
This made Clarissa’s heart sink. At the same time, she felt guilty. She guessed that Luke must have done something to offend Lily.
Actually, what Lily wanted to say was that there was a time when her car had broken down, and there happened to be a mechanic’s workshop nearby, so she drove there to get the car fixed. It was a small problem that should’ve cost around a thousand dollars to fix, but Luke had charged her a whopping five thousand.
As the car had already been fixed, Lily had no choice but to pay up.
Clarissa felt ashamed on Luke’s behalf, but she still sent him a WhatsApp message.
Clarissa: [Luke, let’s go visit Mom’s grave one day.]
Visiting Theresa’s grave was not her main objective. She mostly wanted to see Luke, since it had been a few years since they’d last seen each other. Despite everything he had done, Clarissa still thought of him as her family.
