Clarissa was rarely a bad-tempered person.
“Caleb was researching for some information at my place. Ray was leaving, so he invited me to a meal. I went out and left Caleb alone at home. When I reached home, my research project went missing and disappeared from my computer. It ended up in Professor Mclaurant’s email for no apparent reason. Don is Caleb’s mentor. How can this be explained?”
Clarissa grew more and more irritated the more she spoke. “If you want him to stay, why don’t you go and talk to him?! Why do I have to talk to him?”
She sounded like she was about to cry. Damien’s questions upset her so much that she was suffocating.
“So, no one else was here?” Damien kept prodding.
Clarissa slumped into her chair. She wanted to continue her work and the revision, but her hand on the mouse kept trembling. She stared at the computer screen, but nothing was going into her head. Suddenly, tears fell down her cheeks. She didn’ want Damien to see her crying, so she casually took some tissues and dried her tears.
“Chanel was here, but she left quickly,” Clarissa said nonchalantly while wiping her tears.
“Chanel?” Damien frowned.
A long silence fell in the room.
Clarissa wanted to focus, but her mind just kept drifting away. She couldn’t concentrate.
Damien began to ponder. Now, he was sure Chanel was behind this mess. There was no way that Caleb would do such a thing.
Damien was familiar with Caleb, and knew the latter all too well. Caleb wouldn’t do such a brainless thing. Chanel probably did this to stir things up. It was obvious she desperately wanted to see him.
Caleb: [Clarissa, please allow me to call you by your first name. Your arrival in my life is a miracle. You’re intelligent, beautiful, and kind. You’re very successful in academia too. I’m honored to have known you. I don’t know if there’s any woman who’ll surpass you. Thanks for your company these past few months. Also, I want to tell you something. I went to your house that day on purpose. I just wanted to be a little closer to you. But I know about your relationship with Mr. Lawrence, so I didn’t plan to do anything.]
Clarissa put her elbows on the table after she finished reading it. She pressed her forehead on her palms, feeling more and more annoyed. In a way, Caleb was thrust into this difficult situation because of her.
She felt sorry, but there was no better solution.
Clarissa covered her face with her elbow. She was still crying and sobbing uncomfortably.
“You’re usually a cheerful girl. Why are you always a crybaby whenever something bad happens?” Damien saw Clarissa crying again, and grew speechless. He felt that she had turned back into a little girl. He couldn’t handle her when she became this way, so his tone softened when he spoke to her.
