In the car, Clarissa received a call from Damien. He told her he was already at the university and asked her where she was.
“I’ve just left the university. Chanel’s at Eden Investment, and she’s going to jump off the building! You should hurry up and come, too,” she said anxiously.
“Jump off the building?” Damien sounded doubtful. “Her? For real?”
“Damien, why would someone joke around with their life?” Clarissa frowned. He probably didn’t know Chanel was doing this because her love letter had been exposed. He sounded like he couldn’t care less.
“She’s at Eden Investment?” Damien asked. He didn’t say anything else. He knew Clarissa probably wouldn’t believe him.
“Yes!”
After hanging up, Clarissa’s anxiety levels rose. She kept urging the taxi driver to speed up.
She couldn’t help wondering why Chanel had chosen to go to Eden Investment Corporation. Wouldn’t she ruin Eden Investment’s reputation if something were to happen? As this had something to do with Damien, it meant that it was also indirectly linked to Clarissa. If Chanel really jumped, how could Clarissa continue to work at Eden Investment? What would Charles think of her?
Clarissa was already a little displeased with Chanel to begin with, and this only worsened her impression of Chanel. She knew Chanel was ashamed of having her past exposed to the whole university. Now, everyone knew she had been head over heels for Damien.
Regardless of how bad Clarissa’s impression of Chanel was, she still remembered what Chanel had done for her—Chanel was the one who helped her get a job at the University of Florin, and had always treated her well.
When Clarissa got to Eden Investment Corporation, she saw Charles standing in front of the building with a briefcase in hand.
He had probably just gotten off work when he heard that someone wanted to jump off the building. He couldn’t help panicking—if someone jumped off from there, it would ruin his company’s reputation and affect Ashland. The person behind this had chosen a great spot to jump from.
When he saw the anxious look on Clarissa’s face, he asked, “Clarissa, do you know this person?”
“Yes, she’s my colleague.” She tried to call Chanel.
“Clarissa, look at what you and Damien have done! Someone’s jumping off a building because of you two, and she even deliberately chose to do it at your workplace! You’re the reason she’s doing this!” Connie exclaimed.
Connie didn’t know about the love letter plastered over the notice boards, nor did she know how Chanel and Clarissa knew each other. All she knew was that Chanel was a lecturer at the University of Florin. Since Clarissa was here and looking so anxious, Connie felt that this definitely had something to do with Clarissa. She had deliberately said those things to Charles’s face to worsen his impression of Clarissa. Of course, the part about Chanel deliberately choosing to jump off Eden Investment Corporation’s building was something she had made up as well.
Clarissa turned around, and saw Connie standing there.
Instantly, her expression darkened. “Stop spouting nonsense!”
It was obvious that Charles believed Connie’s words, however. Why else would a university lecturer like Chanel choose to come to Eden Investment, of all places? She had to be doing this because of Clarissa.
He had an ugly look on his face. If not for Clarissa and Damien’s relationship, he would have to rethink whether she was worthy of continuing her employment at Eden Investment.
