Chapter 54 Stay Away From Joseph Clarissa spent the next three days in the hospital. When she got discharged, it was already Friday.
Damien picked her up at the hospital, though he banned her from going to work. He told her that someone would be sending the gown to her later.
In the afternoon, a representative from Promised Fashion Boutique brought over a beautiful gown. It came along with accessories like earrings and hair clips decorated with pearls.
Upstairs, Clarissa was done preparing hersell. The gown was a lovely pink color, made intricately with professional hands. It was a perfect fit for Clarissa’s fair complexion, and suited her cheerful and energetic temperament. “Do I look pretty?” She asked Damien as she stood near the banister, who was scated on the couch downstairs.
The latter listed his head, only to be greeted by the beautiful visage. Clarissa resembled a bright pearl that emitted radiant white liglit. In a way, she was like the rising sun.
Damien could feel heat coursing through his body. For a brief moment, he was unable to control himself.
He recalled having experienced the same feeling six years ago. It happened during the time when that girl grabbed his hand… He did grab Madelynn’s hand back after that, only to realize that the same heat was absent from the touch.
He could only look down at his book and reply as calmly as he could. “Yeah.”
Clarissa normally couldn’t care less about her own appearance. She was used to wearing hoodies and jeans, so when she was suddenly thrusted into a lormal gown, she couldn’t help but feel restricted and awkward.
She narrowed her eyes slightly, impatience written all over her face.
She felt that Damien’s attitude toward her was one of impatience as well. Then again, they were just two people who were bound by the marriage contract. No one cared if she was pretty or not.
Thus, Clarissa concluded that asking Damien that question was an unnecessary move on her
part.
“Mrs. Lawrence, this gown seems a bit loose on you,” the representative from Promised Fashion Boutique commented. “Oh! I got sick a few days ago. Maybe I lost some weight,” Clarissa replied.
“Ah, so that’s the case! I knew Mr. Lawrence would’ve never provided us with the wrong measurements. Please take the gown off so that I can make some changes to the measurements, Mrs. Lawrence. I’ll just stitch this a couple of times, and everything will be as good as new!”
Clarissa did as told and returned to her bedroom. She didn’t know who Damien was planning
lopp
to meet, but she had a feeling that it was most likely a stranger.
Thanks to that business meeting, Clarissa had no choice but to reschedule her visit to her mother at the hospital to Sunday.
On Saturday night, Clarissa encountered the person Damien intended to meet in the Prime International Hotel. The client was a man about fifty years old. When hic shook hands with Damien, he presented himself in a very humble manner and kept bowing at Damien while repeating, “Hello, Mr. Lawrence.” All Damien replied was, “How are you doing?” He didn’t mention that client’s surname at all. Naturally, Clarissa had no idea who that man was. “This is my wife, Clarissa,” Damien said as a form of introduction to Clarissa. Clarissa nodded politely at the client, wlio started gushing about how beautiful and noble she looked.
After everyone took their seats at the table, Damien and the client started discussing business deals. Clarissa was unable to get a word in.
