Back at the university, Clarissa told Damien and Neil to go eat.

“Don’t stay out too late, and don’t waste your time on unnecessary things,” Damien said coldly.

“Yeah, I got it.” Clarissa could now tell how scheming Chanel was. In fact, perhaps Chanel had been the one to spread the love letters in the first place so the whole university would know about her and Damien’s history and link them together. This way, everyone at the university would think badly of Clarissa. Even though she and Damien had met each other much later, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone were to say that Clarissa had snatched Damien away from his high school sweetheart. Despite her not doing anything wrong, it wouldn’t change people’s impression of her.

If Clarissa and Chanel got into any conflict, everyone would probably be on Chanel’s side.

Clarissa followed Chanel back to the latter’s home.

Though Chanel said that it was fine, Clarissa insisted. She wanted to make sure Chanel was safe.

Clarissa saw that Chanel’s home was a complete mess. There was a box full of love letters.

“Clarissa, do you think I’m a joke?” Chanel’s eyes were still red and puffy. As she tidied the mess up, a bitter smile crept onto her face. “I don’t even know how I could’ve loved someone so deeply back then. I just really, really liked him. I’m sorry you had to see all this.”

“It’s fine.” Clarissa glanced at the love letters, and one sentence caught her eye. “You’re my ray of light, and it’s only with you around that I know how wonderful life can be.”

“He returned all these love letters to me, and I fell in love with my husband later on. This is all in the past, and I never would’ve expected Logan to dig these up.”

Clarissa didn’t say anything. Though she didn’t know Damien at that time, she still felt extremely uncomfortable at the thought of a woman calling him her ray of light.

“Have you eaten already?” she asked Chanel. “Shall I make you something to eat?”

She went to the kitchen.

As she watched the water boil, she couldn’t help feeling that Chanel had pulled a fast one on her. She didn’t feel the relief of having saved Chanel from the brink of death.
