Clarissa felt oddly exhilarated at the thought of her poking and prodding Damien while he was still asleep. She continued to play with his lashes.
Suddenly, his deep voice rang out. “Have you had enough fun?”
His eyes remained closed.
Clarissa wasn’t too happy with this. “Why did you pretend to sleep?”
“How would you play around if I didn’t pretend?” he asked back nonchalantly.
“Well, if you were awake…” It occurred to her that she generally wouldn’t have the nerve to do anything if he were awake.
“You wouldn’t have the nerve to play?” he asked, suddenly opening his eyes. Usually, his gaze was sharp and a little scary, but now it was gentle and filled with affection.
Clarissa averted her eyes. She pressed her forehead to his chest and drew circles on his abdomen with her finger.
Her touch was gentle, and it tickled him.
Damien was starting to get aroused.
“Do it somewhere else,” he said.
“Where?” She looked up at him innocently.
Her eyes gleamed.
She was already twenty-eight, but she still seemed like a young lady sometimes.
Her expression aroused him even more.
He pulled her hand downward.
“Here.”
Clarissa’s heart skipped a beat. Her face burned.
She pressed her face to his chest again, her breathing starting to race.
He flipped over and pinned her beneath him.
Thanks to this, Clarissa ended up dazed. She could barely keep her eyes open.
Damien pulled his pants on and went to the bathroom.
Clarissa was still sleeping when he came out of the bathroom.
He slowly sat down by her side.
Her eyes moved slightly, then she opened her eyes. She was greeted by the alluring sight of him sitting there topless.
She propped her head up on one hand, and he pinched her cheek.
“Can you stay for a few more days?” she asked.
“What, you can’t live without me?”
“You wish! I’ll probably need to go to another university as a visiting scholar next month, and I won’t be able to see Neil for some time. I don’t want him to leave so soon,” she said softly.
“Oh, I guess I thought too highly of myself. Where will you be going?”
Clarissa knew Damien would definitely stop her from going if she were to tell him that she would be going to Lotharia. He was rich enough that nothing could stand in his way, but she couldn’t be so willful. She had to act according to the university’s instructions. “I don’t know much about the details yet. I just want to spend more time with Neil.”
“Well, you’re finally acting like a mother for once,” he said.
“Don’t say that.” She took in his expression. He seemed to be brooding over the years he had spent caring for Neil on his own.
