“Get your documents. Let’s get registered,” Damien said to Chanel.
Chanel thought, ‘Something must’ve happened between Damien and Chanel. Damien is a relatively steady person. He won’t do something like going around and looking for someone to marry. But since he’s done this, this means that Clarissa must have done something unforgivable. I can’t delay!’
“Hold on, I’ll be right there.” After speaking, Chanel grabbed her bag and zoomed out of the door, leaving the babysitter to take care of Logan.
On the way, Chanel faked concern and asked, “Damien, don’t be impulsive. If you’re having an argument with Clarossa, you should talk things out with her.”
At the same time, she was sure it had to be a fight they couldn’t come back from if Damien could make such a decision.
Chanel had yet to see the news about Seth and Betty getting engaged. Even if she had, they were two unfamiliar names. Thus, she would’ve skipped on the news.
Damien’s face remained livid. He didn’t speak as he drove straight to the city hall.
Chanel was still feeling uneasy about the whole thing. As long as they hadn’t gotten their marriage certificate, she would remain nervous.
And so, she waited for that moment to come with great impatience.
If anything happened with Clarissa later on, Clarissa would be the person in the wrong. She would be the temptress everyone hated.
Thinking of this, Chanel was delighted. She had never felt this happy before.
She even thought that she should share a photo of the certificate to Instagram to let everyone know that she had gotten married.
When they got to the city hall and were taking out their identification cards, Damien suddenly faltered.
He remembered the time he had registered his marriage with Clarissa.
Clarissa hadn’t known anything. She was too busy being fascinated as she watched the staff there stamp documents.
He remembered Clarissa’s words from that time. “You only need nine dollars to get married. Why do people say marriage is very expensive?”
He recalled how she had said, “Mr. Lawrence, I’ll be a good wife. I won’t shame you.”
He thought of how, after getting registered, she carefully asked him for money.
However, Chanel wouldn’t blame Damien. No, the blame lay on Clarissa!
Chanel could feel jealousy consuming her from the inside. The feeling was so strong, so potent, she barely felt human.
She was the one who awkwardly made believe as though there was anything there. She was filled with hatred.
“Let’s go home first, shall we?” Although he hadn’t done it on purpose, Damien knew Chanel must be very twisted up inside after so many of these occurrences.
Her hate for Clarissa might intensify even more.
That was why Damien softened his tone when he spoke. He wanted things between Chanel and Clarissa to not worsen. If possible, he wanted them to have a decent relationship.
Chanel stared at the floor. She felt so embarrassed that she was close to crying. She didn’t want to be treated like a replacement, but she was one.
She nodded slightly, though she said nothing. In her heart, her hatred for Clarissa had reached its limits.
