I watched Selena for a moment. After hesitating for a while, I found an excuse to catch up with Andy before she left.
"Ms. Andy, what did you mean earlier when you talked to Selena about those things?" I couldn't help but express my puzzlement.
Andy gave me a suspicious look and said, "You're not with our company, so why do you care?"
She shrugged and left right away. I ran toward her and blocked her path again.
"It's true, I'm not part of your company. But on paper, I'm still Selena's husband. Am I not allowed to care about things for my wife?"
Though I wanted to get a divorce and was fed up with her relentless clinging, our relationship was still real. I didn't want to see her or her company dragged down.
Andy looked annoyed, rolling her eyes and covering her ears, as if protesting my retort.
"Fine, fine. I get it. You are a devoted husband. You really don't have to emphasize how much you love Selena in front of me. I might actually get mad."
I didn't fully understand her reaction, but I pressed on. "So what's really going on?"
I didn't want any lingering ties with Selena, but I also didn't want to be in the dark about what was happening in her world.
After all, I had played a significant role in her past.
There was a brief, surprised silence on the other end. Zion then replied with irritation, "Why are you, an outsider, constantly worried about our company? Just focus on your own."
His words stirred my anger.
"You think I wouldn't focus on my own work if I could? You've kept me here in the hospital for 20 days, and you barely let me use my phone and make calls. My company is in Carzonia, a thousand miles away from here. How am I supposed to look after things there?"
During these 20 days in the hospital, I wasn't aware of what was going on at the company. If I had been able to go in even once, I wouldn't have been blindsided by something as important as Sylvia's transfer.
After a long pause, Zion replied coldly, "I'll handle the issue at Selena's company."
