Love That Wasn't Meant to Last novel Chapter 8

When I returned to work, I spotted Selena waiting outside the office building. She was holding a box with a forced smile, and despite the heavy makeup on her face, she looked exhausted. Nonetheless, I could tell she had clearly made an effort to dress up in expensive clothes.

It was obvious that she had not been doing well during our time apart. Since she was clearly waiting for me, I texted my boss, claiming I was feeling unwell to avoid any drama, and got permission to take the day off.

Just as I turned to leave, Selena spotted me and ran over, holding her dress. She was still as reckless as ever, not caring about her own safety.

Perhaps out of lingering affection, I stopped and waited as she approached. Selena just could not let go, and hearing her desperate words only made me sigh. I knew she still loved me, but her love was not reserved for me only.

If she could not stay faithful, there was no point in continuing this relationship. I was exhausted and could not turn a blind eye anymore. I could not casually accept her being intimate with other men or sharing my wife with someone else.

"It's over, Selena. I'm tired. We can't keep doing this," I said firmly.

My words immediately triggered her. "Why? Why? Why, Hud? Isn't it enough that I've admitted my mistakes?"
