Chapter 105
Irvin probably thought I would be moved to tears by his affection. ut in reality, I was put off by it. I was disgusted by his touch. It felt gross.
I yanked my hand back forcefully. “Don’t bother. It’s unnecessary and it’s not going to happen! I don’t need your help, Irvin, nor will I ever start over with you! I, Emilia Quill, will never admit to something I didn’t do!”
I’d rather remain in this detention center than be admitted to a psychiatric hospital for a crime I didn’t commit!
Irvin thought the arrangements he had made were what was best for me. He had repeatedly made compromises because he loved me. However, upon hearing me reject his kindness yet again, he couldn’t contain his anger.
“Emilia!” he yelled. “Could you stop being so stubborn! Do you really want to end up in prison? With the way things are right now, it’s no longer just between you, me, and Lianne! It’s pointless for you to keep denying it! You’ll only end up destroying yourself if you continue like this!”
Travis called him out of the room just as I wanted to retort. The look in Irvin’s eyes was drastically different when he returned. Although he still looked angry, the anger wasn’t the same as what he expressed earlier. There was even a hint of guilt.
I frowned at the sight.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were ill? Do you still consider me your husband?” he questioned.
“What?” My frown deepened.
I was ill? Why didn’t I know about it? I wasn’t ill. Moreover, even if I was, shouldn’t the blame be on him for not knowing? As a husband, It was his fault for not caring enough about his wife. He really knew how to flip a situation.
“What exactly do you take me for, Emilia? How could you not tell me something so important? I would never have known if your brother hadn’t given this to me today. You-” Irvin slammed the item in his hand onto the table in a fit of rage.
He was incensed that I had withheld something like this which led to him misunderstanding me.
I shot him a disdained look. I had no clue what he was raving about again.
Ignoring him, I glanced toward the item he had slammed down before me. My eyes widened in shock when I saw what it was.
It was a medical record. And it wasn’t just anyone’s medical record. It was mine!
I opened the folder and read the first page. “Emilia Quill. Female. 19 years old. The patient is diagnosed with bipolar disorder with intermittent manic episodes. When an episode occurs, the patient will lose control of her actions and have no recollection of what happened during the episode.”
On the next page was a record of incidents from when I was experiencing an episode, but I recognized none of them. Evidence for every incident was even attached, proving that I had done those things.
I was completely stunned when I finished reading. For a moment, I didn’t even know who I was.
Irvin looked as though he wanted to say something. However, when he saw the drastic change in my expression, he froze. “Don’t tell me you’ve even forgotten that you have a mental illness?” he asked after some time.
“Jeremy told me you became mentally imbalanced after your parents adopted Lianne. You developed bipolar disorder after a failed suicide attempt,” he continued upon seeing my blank expression.
“Although you didn’t harm anyone else, you would always lash out at Lianne. You also often did bad things to her but cou‘ remember them after.” He sighed. “It’s possible you were experiencing an episode when you did what you did in the vide Maybe that’s why you think you didn’t do it.
“Even so, it doesn’t mean you truly didn’t. Look at what you’ve done in the past, Emi. Stop being obstinate.”
Irvin pointed at the record of episodic incidents after he finished speaking.
