Chapter 135
It had finally sunk in for Irvin.
It was clear to him now how much I despised and abhorred him. He also realized my laughter had been filled with sadness and hurt.
The more he thought about it, the more panicked and terrified he became.
“Please don’t be like this, Emi. Whatever it is, let’s talk it out. I know I’m at fault for everything before. I…” His voice trailed off as he stepped forward to hug me.
He wanted to fill the terrifying emptiness and fear he felt in his heart. And to him, the only way to do so was to hug me tightly. However, he stopped when he saw I had picked up the fruit knife off the table. He didn’t dare move any closer.
“Careful not to hurt yourself, Emi,” he said, his voice tense.
It turned out he wasn’t afraid of me hurting him. Instead, he was worried I might harm myself.
“Get out!” I repeated.
I truly didn’t want to see him anymore. I wanted him to disappear from my sight right this instant.
He had never understood or believed me in the past. But this time, he finally understood how resolute I was. He knew I wouldn’t tolerate his presence for another second.
Looking at me with concern, he replied, “Okay, I’ll leave. Just please, calm down. We’ll talk later.”
Before, he had thought I was malicious and had hidden motives. Thus, he had believed his treatment of me was justified. He had convinced himself that he was being tolerant of me.
Now, he knew everything had been a misunderstanding. As such, he couldn’t bring himself to recall the various things that had happened over these past two years.
He also knew he wasn’t able to force me to do things like before. So, despite his reluctance, he still left.
It took me some time to collect myself once he was gone.
Irvin didn’t leave right away.
Instead, he stood outside my building, staring at the lit window of my bedroom. He stayed there for a long time, unwilling to
leave.
All this time, I had always been the one doing the appeasing, the one who compromised so that we would get along. Because of that, he didn’t have a clue how to appease me and win me back.
The memory of the scar on my arm flashed through his mind.
People who suffered injuries often knew that a scar like mine didn’t come from an ordinary wound. It was a surgical wound.
Frowning, he thought of getting someone to look into what had happened to me. He wanted to know how I had gotten that scar.
Just then, his phone rang. It was the custom ringtone he had set for Julianne. Immediately, he answered the call.
“Where are you, Irvin? I need your help!” Julianne’s voice was laced with urgency. She sounded as though was in danger.
Just like that, Irvin instantly forgot about having someone look into my scar. He hurriedly got into his car and sped toward Julianne’s location.
However, when he arrived, he realized she wasn’t in any danger at all. She had simply broken a vase in an antique shop and

needed to pay for it.
He was flabbergasted and also irritated.
