It hadn’t been over a decade. The difficult time I endured after my severe injury made it feel like many years had passed. But if I really thought about it, it had only been about eight years since he turned to his family in high school.
“It’s me,” he said.
This ridiculously good–looking guy seemed completely unaware of how dashing he was or how fatal his smile could be. He smiled innocently at me,
Seeing his smile, I couldn’t help but sigh. He had really changed so much.
I remembered when he used to be short and chubby because he had a big appetite. He was also going through puberty back then, 50 his face was often riddled with acne.
The only thing that still looked the same as before was his eyes. And since he was wearing sunglasses earlier, i me not to recognize him.
it was normal for
Tused to be quite close with Noah because I had spent most of my tane at Cordelia’s place during my three years of high school. In a way, I had watched him grow up.
But after so many years of not seeing each other, the sense of familarity had faded.
After exclaiming about how much he had changed, the situation grew a little awkward. Just as I was about to ask him where he was staying so I could drop him off and head to dinner, he suddenly spoke.
“Emi, let’s go home. I’m so tired after the long flight”
He still acted as intimate as before, as if we had never been separated for eight years.
But I was confused. Go home?
I was about to say something when Cordelia called.
“Darling, I forgot to mention it earlier, please let my brother stay with you. You know he’s socially anxious and timid, so he can’t handle dorm life. And he’s too scared to live alone. I’ll treat you to a big meal when I’m back!”
I was stunned.
But what she said was true.
Noah must have gone through some trauma when he was young. He had really bad social anxiety. While other teenagers were out mingling with friends, he had always been very quiet and reserved. It he wasn’t in school, he would stay at home all day, refusing to interact with anyone.
If he didn’t like social interactions, he would be fine being alone. However, he was a huge scaredy–cat. Despite being so chubby and big, he would even be terrified of thunderstorms.
Back in high school, I had spent a lot of time keeping him company
But he was just a child back then,
And now
I looked up at the man who was nearly two heads aller than me. It was impossible to see him as the younger brother I needed to take care of anymore. I couldn’t think of him as that same kid from before.
Cordelia night have forgotten that he was no longer a child and that I wasn’t divorced yet. Besides, he didn’t look as anxious or timid as before.
Noticing my gaze, he immediately flashed me a meek smile. It was really hard to say no to a face like that
