“Why wouldn’t I? I haven’t done any of the things you’ve accused me of. As for you, regardless of what you’ve suffered in the past, you shouldn’t have done what you did. You’ve caused me a great deal of harm by taking those misleading photos and slandering my name. And in doing so, you’ve broken the law,” I colly replied.
Snapping out of his daze, Shaun begged, “Please don’t do this, Er Gemma, she
He had more to say, but I didn’t listen. There was no need for me to so I started to leave.
Seeing this, Shaun urgently yelled, “You said I was your savior, Em! You told me you were grateful to me for saving your life and that you would do whatever I asked of you in the future!”
Back then, Shaun had saved me because he genuinely wanted to. And because he also felt guilty for having intentions to harm me, he never expected me to repay him.
However, Gemma was being arrested right now. Thus, it was the only thing he could use to try to get me to let his sister go.
I glanced back at him, but I still left without another word. I would repay him for saving my life, but not right now.
I got into my car and sighed audibly as I watched the police escort the Green siblings away. How did things turn out this way? It felt utterly undeserving.
I didn’t even remember Gemma, nor had I ever done anything to her. Yet, she had hated me for years. Shaun and her had lurked around for five years just to get back at me.

“Here, have some to warm yourself up,” he offered.

I suddenly felt I couldn’t trust anyone. At that moment, I understood why Irvin had trust issues. I gained insight into the effects of the trauma Phillip had left on him.
“Why are you looking at me like that, Emi?” Noah asked in confusion.
I couldn’t help questioning, “Are you being sincere, Noah? Is your kindness to me genuine, or do you have ulterior motives? Can I trust you completely?”
I didn’t want to become someone who was always suspicious of others–it would be too exhausting. I wanted my sincerity to be reciprocated and to have genuine friends I could trust wholeheartedly.
Noah was taken aback at first. His immediate thought was that I was questioning him because I had been affected by Shaun’s betrayal.
Thus, he answered seriously, “I’ll never hurt you, Emi–ever!”
Then, he thought of how I had asked if he might have other motives. Suddenly, he clenched his hands and seemed to be debating with himself internally..
Eventually, Noah said, “I don’t know if you can call this an ulterior motive, but I like you, Emi. I really, really like you–and not in a sibling way. I want to have a romantic relationship with you, Emi. Does that count as having ulterior motives?”
Completely blindsided by his unexpected confession, I didn’t know how to react. I had been feeling down and as though I couldn’t trust anyone. In my moment of vulnerability, I didn’t expect him to…
