Chapter 285
Before William could respond, Grace immediately added, “I don’t mean to leverage my saving your life against you, but you did say you would grant me one request in return.”
William fiddled with the lighter in his hand. “Yes, I did say that. But I’m not a man of integrity, so I can always go back on my word.”
Grace was stumped.
She hadn’t expected him to say that. How could he make such a promise to her and then void it just like that? Shouldn’t his word be binding, given someone t his status?
It made her question if there was any point in her efforts to become his savior.
Aside from Julianne and I, Grace was also present when I had saved Mr. Ashford on Daiti Island.
She had just happened to be vacationing on the island at the time and had witnessed me save William. Then, she had also watched as Julianne emerged and carted him away when I left to get help.
Initially, Grace had clicked her tongue upon seeing this and had planned on leaving. However, she changed her mind upon recognizing William, who was a prominent figure in Redwood.
Quickly jumping into the sea, Grace drenched herself and then deliberately walked through areas with security cameras. She had even bribed the security guard who was first on the scene to successfully create the illusion that Julianne had stolen the credit for saving William from her.
Subsequently, William’s investigation had revealed she was his actual savior. Like a second, larger predator lying in wait, Grace had exploited Julianne’s scheme for her own gain.
She had thought she would inevitably be able to use him in the future. And given William’s status, she also believed he would become her greatest support on her road to success.
Little did she know this would happen after all the effort she had put in. He had simply denied the life–saving favor she had done for him, just like that. Grace honestly never saw this coming.
The Hardwells wouldn’t lose to William in a direct confrontation, but it wasn’t worth it. Plus, making an enemy out of him would undoubtedly lead to further complications.
Grace fell silent for a while, deep in thought.
Eventually, she said in a gentler tone, “I don’t want to hurt Ms. Quill, Mr. Ashford. I just don’t want her to appear before my husband ever again. Their relationship has already ended anyway, so there’s no need for them to see each other anymore. I’m simply fulfilling her wish.”
William didn’t say anything. He merely continued playing with his lighter as his arm rested on the table.
Grace continued, “Besides, she has to sever all ties with Tim anyway in order for your nephew to be with her. That’s why I think it would be in our best interest if Ms. Quill leaves the country.”
After a brief silence, William responded, “Emilia Quill has no romantic feelings for my nephew, and even if she did, she wouldn’t leave with him. So I advise you to focus on Irvin Sawyer instead of wasting your energy on her.
“Hypnosis isn’t exactly reliable, especially for strong–willed people like him. As a matter of fact, you’re better off taking advantage of his amnesia to make him fall in love with you–and fast.”
Grace was flabbergasted.
If she could make Irvin fall in love with her that easily, she wouldn’t be here right now. He wouldn’t even allow her to touch him, let alone develop feelings for her–especially if I continued to appear before him.
