Chapter 367
There was only one road from the airport to the city, and William‘ ar was right behind ours.
Matthew, who was driving, immediately sensed something was wrong when he saw our car suddenly accelerating at an
alarming speed.
He quickly said, “Mr. Ashford, something’s wrong with Ms. Quillar!”
William, who was busy reading the documents, immediately looked up. His gaze darkened when he saw how recklessly the car in front was moving.
“Catch up with them!” he ordered.
At that moment, his phone rang.
It was Noah calling, and he sounded anxious on the other end. “Uncle Will, are you with Emi right now? I just heard that Madeleine is planning to kill her!
“I don’t know the exact plan, but I heard they’re making a move on the way from the airport to the city. You need to be careful! I’m heading to the airport right now!”
Noah’s words made William’s expression grow even darker.
While Emma was still processing the situation, I noticed something strange about the driver. If the brakes had truly failed, he should’ve been panicking and desperate. But instead, he seemed almost determined to die with us.
I remembered a news report I had seen before, about a series of suicide attacks in Falveria due to the terrorist invasions. I quickly grabbed the knockout spray I had gotten from Irvin and sprayed it at the driver.
At the same time, I reached for the steering wheel.
The spray should take effect immediately. If I could grab the wheel before the driver collapsed, I could steer us toward the river, and we might survive.
But I reached for the wheel before he collapsed, and he suddenly steered the car toward the river.
I froze.
Just as I thought I had misunderstood him, and it wasn’t a suicide attack but actually a brake failure, we plunged into the river.
Many cars on the road came to a stop.
Someone shouted, “A car had fallen into the river! Hurry, help them!”
Six or seven figures leaped into the river and swam toward our car. Although they were shouting that they were there to save us, I thought that something was off.
Perhaps I tend to be a little negative and skeptical, but I felt that most people would simply stop and stare in situations like this. It was rare that so many people would immediately jump in to help without hesitation.
The relief I had felt from falling into the river and surviving quickly vanished, and my chest tightened again.
As if to confirm my suspicion, the driver, who had been in the front seat, immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and reached to grab me the moment we hit the water.
But before he could reach me, the effects of the spray finally kicked in, and he passed out.
Emma clutched my arm tightly, terrified. “Emilia, what’s happening? What do we do?”
I held her arm and tried to calm her down. I asked, “Do you know how to swim?”
