Chapter 378
During dinner, I excused myself to use the restroom. As I passed a private room, I was suddenly forcefully yanked inside. I was about to cry out, but then I met Irvin’s worried gaze.
“I just got news you were in an accident and hospitalized yesterday. What happened, babe?” he asked.
Irvin suspected Julianne wasn’t the only reason I had been prevented from attending the academic exchange conference. Hence, he had someone look into why I was delayed from entering the hall
That was how he discovered I had fallen into the river and subsequently spent a night in the hospital.
Upon learning this, he had immediately sent me an anxious text asking what had happened. However, I hadn’t been checking my phone. So, naturally, I hadn’t responded to his message.
Irvin had figured I was probably too engrossed in exchanging knowledge with the professors and hadn’t had the time to look at my phone. And since I had shown up without any apparent injuries he had also assumed I was physically fine.
Even so, he couldn’t help but worry endlessly that I had been hospitalized due to an accident. So, he just had to know what had happened.
I didn’t want to talk to Irvin about this, especially when Noah said he had already talked to Ms. Charter and assured me she wouldn’t attempt anything else.
So I kept it brief. “The brakes of our car malfunctioned, and we fell into the river. I just swallowed a bit of water. It’s nothing serious.”
Irvin finally relaxed upon hearing this. He pulled me into a tight hug and murmured, “Thank goodness you’re okay.”
Then, changing the subject, Irvin said, “Babe, I had a great conversation with Professor Nate Forrest today. He’s a top expert in biophysics. Try to free up some time in the next few days so I can introduce you two.”
Irvin knew I’d hit a bottleneck in my recent experiments. He wanted to introduce me to an expert in a different field to see if it could help me.
I knew who Professor Forrest was. He was the scientist that Mr. Holland respected most, and he was also someone I idolized. In fact, he was the person I wanted to meet most at this conference. However, he was notoriously aloof and hard to approach.
Professor Weiss never had the chance to cross paths with Professor Forrest either, and he also couldn’t find an opportunity to speak to Professor Forrest the whole day.
Yet, not only had Irvin successfully struck up a conversation with Professor Forrest, but they had also hit it off.
I was genuinely surprised.
Irvin was a businessman, so I didn’t know how he managed to approach a prominent scholar and even befriended him.
I also didn’t know why Irvin would attend this conference, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was that I had a chance to meet Professor Forrest.
“I’m available anytime,” I replied. “Just let me know when Professor Forrest is free.”
I wasn’t an unreasonable person. Besides, Irvin owed me big time. So, it was only fair that I took advantage of any benefits I could get from him.
“Alright,” Irvin said. He was beaming since I had accepted his good intentions.
I thought about how well he understood me as I took in his smile. Lowering my gaze, I became more resolute.
“I’m sure you can tell that Lumi Calder is actually Julianne, Irvin,” said.
His smile turned stiff at my words.
