Grace and her closest aide knew how ruthless William was. And if he ever found out she had taken the credit from his real savior, the consequences would be disastrous. Not only would they lose the benefits William had been giving them, but he might even kill them for it.

His upbringing was vastly different from those who were born inte prestigious familles. After losing the protection of his brother and sisterinlaw at a young age, William had to rely solely on his fierce resolve to fight his way through a den of vipers.

So, not only was he not a good person, but he was ruthless and utterly coldhearted. Anyone he regarded as an enemy had never met a good end.

In that moment, Grace and her aide silently prayed William hadn’t heard what they’d just said. Unfortunately, judging from the frosty air he was emanating, he had.

Grace’s aide finally snapped out of his shock and turned to her with a look of terror. When Grace met his gaze, she was so furious that she practically wanted to strangle him.

She had never dared to breathe such an important secret to out. Worst of all, William happened to hear it.

anyone else. Yet, her aideof all times and placeshad blurted it

If her aide wasn’t a confidant she had personally groomed, Grace would’ve suspected he had done it on purpose to sabotage her. Just then, William stepped toward Grace, radiating murderous intent. What did he mean by fabricated rescue?

Grace couldn’t help but tremble when she met his murderous gaze. However, she was not without experience. So, even with fear coursing through her veins, she didn’t let a hint of it show on the outside.

She was about to say something when William threatened, You’d better tell the truth. Otherwise, you’ll know just how ruthless I actually am.

His words made her heart shrivel. But she could never tell him the truth because to do so would be like signing her own death sentence.

Grace was an incredibly quickwitted woman. She could still quickly calculate what her best move waseven though she was terrified and had been blindsided in the worst possible way.

Under William’s piercing and murderous gaze, she still managed to look genuinely ashamed and vexed.

I didn’t save you because my younger brother had drowned, and I couldn’t bear to see someone suffer the same fate. Instead, I purposely saved you because I had received secret intel that the person drowning was you,Grace said.

Although saying this would void the lifesaving debt William owed her, it was still far better than becoming his enemy.

To make her story more convincing, she hurriedly added, My son didn’t develop a heart defect because I saved you. in good health then. So, after rescuing you, I was completely fine.

Ihad been

My son simply didn’t develop well later on. Maybe I had been too conniving, and god had punished me for it because he couldn’t stand it.

She smiled bitterly before continuing, But what else could I have done aside from that? If I could live a carefree life, why would I need to scheme like this?

Be it weak or strong, Grace could portray herself in either light, especially to garner sympathy. Plus, she had a naturally delicate appearance. So, she didn’t even need to act pitiful.

She merely needed to stand there, and she would already look fragile enough that people couldn’t help but sympathize with her. And this effect became even stronger when she pretended to be fragile.

If Grace ever joined the entertainment industry, she could easily win the award for best actress. After all, her explanation was so convincing that even someone as distrustful as William believed her.
