Chapter 407
The drug Grace had bought off the black market was fast–acting dice Irvin quieted down, it meant the drug’s effects would kick in soon, and he would be overwhelmed by desire.
Before that happened, she had to leave and get to the hotel she had prepared beforehand.
Grace was helping Irvin into the elevator when his phone rang. It was his trusted aide, Mason Steele, calling
Mason had been waiting at the main entrance for a while, but he hadn’t seen any signs of Irvin. Feeling something was amiss, he decided to call Irvin
Grace answered the call with a straight face, “Mr. Hardwell had a too much to drink. I’ve already left with him, so you can all go home too.”
Mason instinctively frowned. As Irvin’s trusted aide, he naturally knew Irvin and Grace weren’t the loving married couple they portrayed in public. There had to be a reason Irvin had suddenly called and asked Mason to meet him at the main entrance.
He knew something must have happened, so he replied, “I have something important I need to report to Mr. Hardwell personally. Would you mind handing the phone to him, Mrs. Hardwell?”
“He’s already passed out,” Grace replied smoothly. “Whatever it is you need to say, you can just say it to me.”
Her answer only confirmed Mason’s suspicion. In all his time by Irvin’s side, regardless of how major a project discussion was, Irvin had never gotten drunk.
This was especially so when Grace was accompanying Irvin. It wasn’t possible that he would get drunk, pass out, and allow her
to take him home.
Mason tried again. “Mrs. Hardwell, I still wish to
But before he could finish, Grace sharply cut him off, “Still wish to what? Know your place, Mason Steele!”
Even though Mason was Irvin’s trusted aide, he was still a Hardwell employee. So, he had no right to question Grace, who was technically his employer.
She hung up before Mason could say anything else.
He knew it was pointless for him to call again. The more evasive she acted, the more convinced he was that something was
wrong.
He knew he had to find Irvin immediately, but entry to this event was by invite–only. He had no way in. Suddenly, his eyes lit up with an idea. He instructed Irvin’s security team to block all exits from the building.
After ending the call, Grace turned Irvin’s phone off and placed it in her bag. Then, she pressed the elevator button for the basement floor. When she saw Irvin had gone completely quiet, her nerves–which had strung tight all evening–began to ease.
The elevator soon arrived at the basement floor, and Grace and her undercover server helped Irvin out.
He had been quiet and seemed completely limp the entire time. Then, out of nowhere, he pushed them out of the elevator with a powerful force. Before either of them could react, he swiftly closed the elevator doors.
Grace was on the verge of losing her mind as she stared at the closed elevator doors. She had no idea if Irvin was even human. He had been drugged with such a heavy dose. So, how could he still have the strength to shove them like that?
She didn’t dare think about it. She didn’t dare imagine what kind of consequences she would face if she failed tonight.
While she did have Magnus‘ support, she knew all too well that he only ever cared about the interests of the Hardwell family. So, if Irvin threw all caution to the wind to destroy her, Grace knew Magnus would definitely side with Irvin and help him wipe her
out.
She couldn’t let that happen. She couldn’t allow Irvin to escape.
