Irvin’s position within Hardwell Group was becoming increasingly important. That being said, he still wasn’t on par with Magnus, who had true power.
Magnus knew far more than Irvin did. It was only thanks to his protection and cover ups that Agatha and Grace had managed to keep Irvin in the dark.
“This is the last time I’m warning you! You better watch yourself! Magnus threatened coldly.
Then, he turned and stormed off to the study.
Agatha’s hands balled into fists at her side. Her hands were clenched so tightly that her long nails dug into her palms and drew blood. But she didn’t feel a thing.
Finding someone young who looked like Irvin wasn’t easy, especially when time was running out.
I started to wonder if I might need to give up on the idea and go abroad early to give birth in secret. Just then, Noah returned.
He had probably seen the news report about Irvin and Grace’s pregnancy. As such, he knew there was no future between me and Irvin, and that it was time for me to move on.
Thus, this time, Noah wasn’t subtle like before. He booked an entire restaurant and went all out in decorating it romantically.
Genuinely believing we were having a normal dinner, I walked in and was utterly dumbfounded.
Just then, Noah appeared holding a large bouquet of fiery red roses
Getting down on one knee before me, he asked, “Emi, will you date me with marriage as our goal?”
I snapped back to my senses. Looking at Noah’s handsome, beautiful face, I couldn’t help but feel my heart ache. I felt sorry that I was going to reject him.
They said men and women couldn’t just be friends, but I truly didn’t feel any romantic feelings for Noah. My feelings for him were purely familial, and I had always seen him as a younger brother.
I couldn’t be with Noah in the past, much less now. He was so young and so wonderful. He deserved the very best.
Noah knew me well. So, the moment he saw the look in my eyes, he knew exactly what I wanted to say.
Before I could open my mouth, he quickly added, “I know you can’t let go of Irvin just yet, Emi, but I can wait! You don’t have to say yes to me today. Let’s just have dinner first!”
As Noah spoke, he shoved the bouquet into my arms and tried to pull me toward our table.
However, I didn’t take the flowers from him and also avoided his outstretched hand. Taking a few steps back to put distance
between us,
I looked at him seriously.
“There’s no need to wait, Noah. I will never be with you. It’s not because you’re not good enough–in fact, you’re an excellent man. But I only see you as a brother, just like Cordelia does,” I said.
ah’s Cordelia had always adored handsome men, even before she married Hugo. But no matter how stunned she was b looks, she had never felt anything more than familial love for him. She had only ever seen him as her younger broer, her family.
Even though I spoke with such seriousness and finality, Noah acted as though he couldn’t see how decisive I was.
“Let’s have dinner first, Emi.”
I lowered my gaze at his insistence. “I’m pregnant with another man’s babies. So, even if I completely let go of Irvin, I still can’t be with you.”
