“Not good enough for me?” William huffed in amusement before continuing, “You see yourself as a divorcée–then, what about me?
“I’m in my 30s. And with my status, do you think I’ve never been with a woman before? Not only have I been with women, but I’ve been with several.”
William wasn’t the affectionate type. But we all knew this world wasn’t black and white.
When his brother and his wife died, they had left him to carry the Ashford family at a young age. Barely a teenager, William had to fight tooth and nail to survive.
For him to have reached his current position, he couldn’t possibly have remained pure. William had used everything he could, so he was never a good man to begin with.
“As for your babies, it’s precisely because you’re pregnant with them that I decided to propose to you,” William added.
I was dumbfounded. I didn’t understand why my pregnancy would make him decide to marry me.
Squaring his shoulders, William said, “My brother and his wife died saving me. They could’ve turned their backs on me. Yet, they had given up their lives for me without hesitation. However, I couldn’t even take care of their children properly.
“I’m the reason Noah and Ava were kidnapped. Noah has such psychological scars because of me. Ava’s never had a single healthy, lively day. She has to take more pills than anyone can count on a daily basis just to stay alive.
“I owe them so much. And without my brother and sister–in–law, I wouldn’t even be alive. Hence, everything I have belongs to their children,” he explained.
William took a breath before elaborating. “After I found Noah, I had a vasectomy. So, I’ll never have kids of my own.
“I know how much you want kids–to the extent where you even considered IVF in the past. If you weren’t already pregnant, I wouldn’t have dared be with you since I can’t give you any. I couldn’t allow my inability to reproduce to stop you from having what you wanted.”
William had never been a saint. He had always taken anything he wanted by force, by any means necessary. However, he wasn’t this way when it came to me.
He couldn’t bring himself to use force or underhanded means. Not only that, he always considered my feelings first. He wouldn’t dare act if there was even the slightest chance of upsetting me.
He added, “So, to me, the fact that you’re pregnant isn’t a bad thing. Instead, it makes me feel that even fate is helping me be with you!
“And don’t think I’m some great person who deserves someone better. I may be rich, but everything I own belongs to Noah and Ava. In other words, if you were to be with me, you wouldn’t get any assets from me.
“Strictly speaking, it’s not that you’re not good enough for me—I’m the one who isn’t good enough for you!” he exclaimed.
It didn’t matter what kind of person William was or what he had done. He was still the best uncle in the world.
If not for me, he had planned to stay single his whole life, just so he could better protect the interests of Noah and Ava. Even the harsh words “you’re useless” or “I’ll treat you like an expendable pawn“-William had said to Noah before were just to push
him to become stronger.
“Of course, that’s all after I die. While with you, as long as I’m alive, I’ll give you and your children the best!” William declared.
He implored, “Putting feelings aside and looking at the current circumstance, I believe I’m the most well–suited person for you, Emilia.
“And don’t overthink marrying me–just treat it like a contractual marriage. You’re marrying me only so everyone thinks your children are mine.
