Chapter 49
She gave me a thumbs–up. “Perfect!”
I knew she was complimenting me for not forgetting everyone except Irvin.
Yeah, she was right.
“Alright, no more talk about that jerk. It’s your birthday, and we have to celebrate big!” I exclaimed.

Today, I was going to spoil Cordelia and make het feel like the happiest princess in the world.
I wrapped my arm around her and took just one step forward when a heavy crash of something hitting the ground sounded right behind us.
We instinctively trned and saw a heavy flowerpot smashed on the spot where we had just been standing.
The pot had shattered into pieces, sharp fragments scattered everywhere. Both our faces turned pale in an instant.
I didn’t even want to think about what would’ve happened if we hadn’t taken that step forward.
The pot was so heavy. If it hit our heads, it would be a disaster.
Cordelia snapped out of it and looked up, ready to yell at whoever was responsible, but before she could say a word, two kids came running down the stairs.
They couldn’t have been more than 12.
Tears streamed down their faces as they apologized. They explained that they had been trying to carry the flowerpot back inside from the balcony, but it slipped out of their hands by accident.
The kids cried so hard, looking more terrified and miserable than we were, the actual victims. After all, they were just kids.
There wasn’t much we could say. We simply warned them to be more careful in the future.
“You’re lucky no one got hurt this time. If it had hit someone, things could’ve gone really bad.”
Through sobs, they promised over and over that they’d never let it happen again.
After that, we didn’t press further and left the scene.
Thinking it was nothing more than an accident, neither of us noticed the man sitting in a car across the street. His face twisted with rage as he gripped the steering wheel, slamming it repeatedly when he saw the flowerpot had missed its mark.
Neither Cordelia nor I are the type to overthink things. Besides, it was her birthday, and we were too busy enjoying ourselves to dwell on what happened earlier.
After a big, satisfying meal, I was just about to ask her what she wanted to do next when she suddenly gasped, practically screaming into her phone.
“Oh my god! Thompson’s exclusive designs just dropped as a surprise release! One unique piece per store, and they’re all different! Hurry! We have to grab it!”
Besides handsome men, Cordelia’s biggest passion was snatching up Thompson’s exclusive designs.
There was only one store in Claudeville that carried his collection, and it was a first come, first served basis. We quickly paid the bill and raced over, flagging down the first cab we saw.

The moment we arrived, Cardella rushed toward the display case. Her eyes lit up as she pointed to the latest release. “That one! Yes, that one! Wrap it up for me, please!
The sales associate was just about to oblige with a smile when another voice chimed in, “I’d like to have Thompson’s new release, please wrap it up for me.”
That familiar tone made both Cordelia and me instinctively turn our heads.
It was Julianne and Simone.
