William's agitation caused Irvin to frown. Sensing something bad had happened, he asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen to Emi?"
Irvin initially had arranged for someone to follow me in secret. But after I got engaged to William, he withdrew his people to avoid affecting our relationship.
Because of that, Irvin didn't know I was missing. He had simply guessed from William's anxious demeanor that something had happened to me.
Men usually understood each other better.
Irvin could tell William wanted to marry me because he genuinely cared about me. So, for William to be this restless and even come looking for him, it had to be about me.
William was a powerful man, but he had never acted macho. He definitely wouldn't let his rivalry with Irvin stop him from telling him what was wrong. Even his pride couldn't stop him from allowing Irvin to help, not when my safety was at risk.
"Emi is missing!" he revealed.
Despite being mentally prepared, Irvin's heart clenched tightly when he heard this. He anxiously asked, "What happened?"
"Her butler told me she went out yesterday evening with only her phone but never returned," William explained.
Before Irvin could respond, William hurriedly added, "That criminal organization is still after her. So, Emi always brings many bodyguards with her, no matter where she goes.
"For her to have gone out unaccompanied, it means she was meeting someone she knows well and trusts won't harm her. Now think, besides you, who else does Emi trust enough to meet alone?"
Irvin and I had known each other since we were teenagers. So, William knew he was the most familiar with my interpersonal relationships.
I had a very small social circle. Besides Irvin, the people closest to me were Cordelia, Grandma, Mr. Holland, and maybe Jeremy. Out of these four people, Cordelia, Grandma, and Mr. Holland would never do anything to harm me, which left Jeremy as the most likely suspect.
Irvin was about to say this when William said, "It's not Jeremy. I've already ruled him out."
Unable to find me and having concluded that someone close to me must have taken me, William had suspected Irvin first. But at the same time, he also had his people look into Jeremy. And just before he arrived here, he received confirmation that it wasn't Jeremy.
