Irvin narrowed his eyes at this possibility.
Grace truly was sharp and perceptive. Even though Irvin hadn't said a word and only narrowed his eyes, she had picked up on something. No—it was actually more accurate to say that she was a chronic overthinker.
Agatha had been even more overjoyed and attached than Grace was when Grace had successfully gotten pregnant. In that moment, she immediately recognized that Irvin might notice something because Agatha was too excited.
Hence, Grace had voiced her concern to Agatha early on. Grace had told her she needed to hold back in front of Irvin and not show too much fondness or care toward the unborn babies. Otherwise, he might grow suspicious.
Agatha had acknowledged this was a real possibility. So, she had always exercised restraint when Irvin was present.
It was just that she had been too worried just now when she saw something had nearly happened to Grace. Because of this, she had acted on impulse and had forgotten to hold back.
But just this once was enough for Irvin to notice something was off.
Grace's heart had only just started to relax. But when she realized that Irvin might now be suspecting the babies she was carrying weren't his, she was suddenly gripped by panic again.
He had merely threatened Grace just now. He hadn't killed her or seriously injured her. She believed it was because, to some degree, he cared about the babies in her womb.
As long as Irvin believed the babies were his, Grace's safety would be guaranteed. But if he started to suspect they weren't, she feared…
Doubt had started to take root in Irvin. Just as Grace thought he would act on it, he unexpectedly withdrew his gaze, turned, and left.
Compared to whether the babies in Grace's belly were his or not, what Irvin cared about and wanted to do more right now was rescue me.
He hadn't promised he wouldn't hurt Grace again. Seeing that Irvin was about to leave without doing so, Agatha naturally moved to grab his arm to force it from him. But before she could, Grace rushed over and pulled her back.
